Reading the Symptoms
Start with what the machine is telling you. A small fuel stain or drip beneath the left side of the quad, where the fuel valve sits, is the most obvious sign. A gasoline odor lingering around the front plastics counts even without visible fuel, since a tiny weep can evaporate before it ever reaches the floor. Look closely at both fittings for a crusted ring of dust, which forms where fuel has seeped and dried again and again.
The engine contributes evidence as well. When flow through the hose drops because the line has partially collapsed, or when air sneaks in past a loose joint, the mixture goes lean. Do this outdoors or with the garage door wide open. Removal Without a Fight
Turn the petcock off, then take the seat off and pull whatever bodywork blocks access to the tank outlet and carburetor inlet. Attach the clear tube to the float bowl drain, run it into your container, open the screw, let the bowl empty, and close it again. Slide the catch pan into position and lay a rag over the first fitting you intend to open, since the hose holds fuel even with the valve shut.
Back both clamps off and slide them well up the hose. Break the varnish bond by twisting the hose on its barb rather than pulling straight out; that keeps unnecessary load off the petcock spigot and the carburetor inlet. Hose that has effectively glued itself in place comes away easily if you slit it lengthwise with a razor blade and peel it off in two pieces. Take a mental note or a quick photo of the routing and every clip it passes through before the old line is fully clear.
Installation and the Final Leak Check
Cut the replacement to match the original length. Extra hose can chafe against the frame or kink and choke flow, while a short piece keeps both fittings under constant strain. Press each end fully onto its barb until it seats, and do it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone should never touch a fuel fitting — lubricant on the sealing surface produces a slow weep and allows the hose to walk off the barb as the machine vibrates. Dip a tight end in hot water for a moment if you need help getting it started.
Position the new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, firm without crushing the hose wall. Reopen the petcock, wait a minute for the line and float bowl to fill, then wipe both joints and inspect them closely under strong light for any beading. Start the engine, let it idle for several minutes, and check once more while everything is warm and running.
