The fuel hose is the cheapest part in the fuel system and the one most likely to end a ride early. On the 2017 Outlander MAX 570 DPS, the Rotax 570 V-twin is fuel injected with an electric pump inside the tank, so that hose carries pressurized fuel forward to the throttle body. No petcock exists to shut off flow, and that is where planning the job has to begin.

Understanding What You Are Working On

Reach under the tank looking for a fuel valve on this machine and you will not find one, because there is nothing for it to control. The in-tank module houses both the pump and the filter, and it pressurizes a single supply hose running to the engine. Nothing on the visible line is a filter element you can change.

The practical consequences are two. Pressure stays in the line after shutdown, so it must be deliberately bled off before a fitting is opened. And if you need to stop fuel from moving without draining the tank, the tool is a pair of line-clamping pliers rather than a valve. Fittings may be plain barbs with clamps or self-locking quick-connect couplers, so confirm which you have before buying hardware.

Gathering Supplies and Working Safely

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves plus eye protection
  • Hose rated for fuel-injection pressure in the original inside diameter
  • New clamps in the correct style, or a quick-disconnect release tool for a locking coupler
  • Line-clamping pliers, filling in for the petcock this model does not have
  • A shallow catch pan and a sealed, fuel-rated container
  • A razor blade, a small flat-blade screwdriver, sockets for the seat and side panels, and rags

Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, which means it drifts down and pools in a layer across the floor where you will be kneeling, and your nose stops noticing it after a short while. Work outdoors when weather allows, or open the shop enough that air moves at ground level rather than depending on a high window. Shut off furnaces and water heaters with standing pilots, keep grinders, welders, and torches out of the space, and place a fire extinguisher next to the machine rather than on a far wall. Seal drained fuel in a container and get it clear of the work area before testing.

The Reasons Fuel Hose Fails

Externally, the hose bakes. Heat from the V-twin drives out the plasticizers that keep rubber pliable, and the wall grows steadily stiffer until it can no longer flex with the chassis. At that point rough terrain works fine cracks into the surface, and one eventually goes all the way through. Riders in dry, arid country see it earlier, since low humidity pulls moisture out of the material.

Internally, ethanol-blended gas is at work. Alcohol absorbs water, and fuel that sits in the line for weeks slowly degrades the inner liner, softening it and releasing fine material toward the injectors. Neither process announces itself, which is why age is as good a replacement trigger as visible damage.

Symptoms That Justify the Job

  • A puddle or damp film beneath the machine after it has been parked
  • A gasoline smell around the tank that will not clear, worst right after shutdown
  • Surface cracking, chalkiness, or a hardened section you can feel by pinching the hose
  • A ring of caked grime at a fitting where fuel has seeped and dried
  • The V-twin bogging under throttle, running lean, or acting starved with a full tank

Because the circuit is pressurized, a pinhole often mists fuel that evaporates before it drips, so absence of a puddle is not proof of a sound line.

Removal and Installation

Bleed the pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine until it quits from starvation. Turn the key off and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and side plastics for real access, slide the catch pan under, and drape a rag over the first fitting before opening it — the hose is still full of gasoline.

Push clamps back along the hose before disturbing any joint. On a quick-connect, press the tabs evenly and pull it straight off the nipple; never lever sideways, because plastic collars go brittle with exposure. If the old hose has varnished onto a barb, twist gently to break the bond, then slit it lengthwise and peel it away if it still holds. Note the routing as it comes out, especially at the front of the chassis, since this selectable 4x4 carries front differential hardware that adds clips and clearance points a two-wheel-drive quad does not have.

Cut the new hose to the original length. Seat each end fully onto its barb past the retention bead and install everything dry, keeping grease, oil, and silicone away from every sealing surface because lubricant is what lets pressurized fuel creep out from under a clamp. Hot water eases a tight fit. Fit new clamps just behind the bead and tighten evenly without crushing the rubber. A self-locking quick-connect takes no clamp, only a positive click and a confirming pull. Restore every factory clip so the hose stays off the exhaust and clear of the driveline.

Testing the Result

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking to pressurize the line. Inspect both joints while everything is dry, wiping each with a clean light rag and watching for staining rather than a drip. Start the engine and check again at idle, since vibration finds seals that hold under static pressure and weep once the engine runs.

Give it several minutes of leak-free idle before the panels go back on, then take a short ride and inspect once more with the machine warm. If fuel delivery still feels weak under load afterward, keep in mind that this injected 570 DPS carries its filter inside the tank as part of the pump assembly. A new hose fixes leaks and cracked rubber; a restriction upstream of the hose is a separate matter to chase down.
