Half of doing this job well on a 2016 Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS happens before you touch the machine. Buy the wrong hose and it will not survive injection pressure. Show up without a release tool and you will end up prying on a plastic coupler you cannot easily replace. Ten minutes of shopping and staging saves an afternoon of frustration.

Buying the Right Parts and Staging Your Tools

Everything below should be on the bench before the seat comes off:

  • Hose rated for fuel-injection pressure, matched to the original inside diameter — ordinary carburetor line is not adequate on this machine
  • New clamps in the correct size range for whichever fitting style your machine uses
  • A quick-disconnect release tool, in case the tank outlet uses a locking coupler
  • Line-clamping pliers to pinch off any low-pressure section, since there is no petcock to shut
  • Nitrile gloves and safety glasses
  • A sealed fuel-safe container and a drain pan
  • Screwdrivers, a socket set for plastics and tank hardware, needle-nose pliers, and a sharp utility blade
  • A generous stack of rags and a flashlight for tracing the routing

Ventilation and Gasoline Handling

Because gasoline vapor is denser than air, it settles at floor level and lingers there instead of drifting out an upper window. Roll the door wide open and get real cross-flow through the space, or pull the quad out onto the driveway. Then remove ignition sources, especially the low ones — unvented heaters, hot drop lights, grinders, torches, or a pilot flame on an appliance in the same room. Keep an extinguisher close, wear gloves so gasoline is not sitting on your skin, and cap the drained fuel container immediately instead of leaving an open pan on the ground.

Confirming an Injected Fuel Circuit

The Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS runs fuel injection, so the familiar carbureted routine does not apply. There is no petcock under the tank. An electric pump mounted inside the tank feeds a pressurized line forward to the throttle bodies on the 749cc V-twin, and that circuit retains pressure long after shutdown. Bleeding it down is a required step, not a suggestion.

The filter is part of the in-tank pump assembly rather than a serviceable inline unit on the visible hose, which is worth remembering if a running problem outlasts the new hose. The tank outlet may also use a self-locking quick-connect coupler, retained by a plastic collar with release tabs and needing no clamp at all. Identify what you have before pulling.

What Kills a Fuel Line

Rubber hardens from the outside as the plasticizers that keep it flexible slowly migrate out of the wall. Heat cycling from the V-twin accelerates that, and dry climates accelerate it further by drawing residual moisture out of the rubber. A hose that has lost its flex cannot absorb the vibration a heavy utility machine generates on rough ground, so what starts as fine surface checking becomes a crack that eventually goes through.

Meanwhile ethanol-blended gasoline degrades the liner from within. Alcohol in the fuel absorbs moisture and slowly breaks down the inner surface, with fuel left standing during long unused stretches doing the most damage. The softened liner sheds fine particles into a system that pushes fuel through injector orifices measured in thousandths of an inch, so internal deterioration matters here even more than on a carbureted quad.

Recognizing a Line That Is Nearly Done

Watch for a wet patch or small puddle on the skid plate or floor after the machine has been parked, and for a gasoline smell around the tank that is sharpest right after shutdown while the circuit is still pressurized. Inspect the hose itself for cracking, a chalky bloom, or a hardened section you can feel when flexing it, and look for a dark grit-caked ring at each fitting, which is dried fuel from a slow weep. On the running side, bogging under load, a stumble on hard acceleration, or fuel starvation at higher rpm all point the same direction. Note that a small pressure-side leak may atomize and evaporate before it drips, so a persistent smell with no puddle still deserves investigation.

Removing the Old Hose

Depressurize first: pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine briefly until it stalls from starvation, switch the key off, and disconnect the battery negative cable. Take off the seat and the side plastics covering the tank outlet and the run heading back toward the throttle bodies. Slide the pan into place and lay a rag over the first fitting you open, since residual fuel remains in the line regardless of bleed-down.

Slide spring clips or worm clamps well back along the hose before you disturb a fitting. For a quick-connect, press the release tabs squarely and pull straight off — levering sideways cracks collars that have grown brittle with age. Break a varnish-bonded hose loose with a gentle twist rather than a hard pull, and if it will not release, slit it lengthwise with the blade and peel it away instead of risking the barb. Trace and photograph the routing before the hose is fully out. This 4x4 chassis carries front differential hardware and extra frame crossmembers that a two-wheel-drive quad does not, which adds a clearance point or two along the run.

Installing, Then Verifying Under Pressure

Cut the replacement to the original length with nothing extra. A long hose chafes on the frame or interferes with steering components; a short one holds tension on both fittings. Push each end fully onto its barb dry, until it bottoms against the shoulder, and keep grease, oil, and silicone completely off the fittings, because lubricant on a sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a path out. Hot water softens a stubborn end if it resists. Place clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly, and where a self-locking quick-connect is used, push until the collar clicks and then tug firmly to verify engagement without adding a clamp. Return the hose to every factory clip so it stays clear of the front driveline and exhaust heat.

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without starting. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit, so you can inspect both joints while everything is still clean. Wipe each connection with a dry rag and look for a bead. Then start the engine, let it idle, and inspect once more with full operating pressure and vibration present before the plastics go back on. If delivery still feels weak with fresh hose in place, the in-tank filter and pump module are where to look next.
