Dry, low-humidity climates make that happen sooner by pulling moisture out of the hose wall. Staging the Job and Respecting the Vapor

Getting the Old Hose Off the Barbs
Begin by removing the fuel pump fuse or relay and cranking the starter until the engine stalls, which bleeds off the pressure. Key off, negative battery cable disconnected. Take off the seat and any panel over the tank fitting, slide the drain pan underneath, and lay a rag across the first joint you open, since a depressurized hose still holds fuel.
Slide clamps back along the hose before disturbing the fitting itself. A locking coupler comes apart with both tabs pressed evenly and a straight pull; angling it will crack aged plastic. If varnish has fused the hose to a barb, twist it gently to break the bond rather than yanking, and slit it lengthwise with a razor if it refuses to let go. Record the routing before the hose is fully free, paying attention to the clips and clearance points near the front differential hardware on this 4x4 chassis.
Dry Fittings, New Clamps, Original Routing
Match the new hose to the old for length. Excess sags toward hot or moving parts and a short piece pulls at both ends every time the frame works. Seat each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, dry — grease, oil, and silicone all give pressurized fuel a path to creep along the sealing surface. When a hose fights you, half a minute in hot water softens it enough to push on by hand.
Position new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly, firm without cutting into the rubber. A self-locking quick-connect needs only a solid push until it clicks and then a tug to verify engagement; no clamp is required or wanted there. Return the hose to its original guides before reinstalling anything.
Confirming a Dry Repair
Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without starting. Each cycle runs the pump and brings the hose up to pressure, letting you check both joints while the surrounding metal is still clean.
