Buying the right hose is half the battle on this job. A 2015 Grizzly 700 is fuel injected, which means its plumbing carries pressure rather than simply letting gravity do the work, and the wrong hose off a shelf will not hold up. Sort the parts out first, and the actual replacement on this 4x4 becomes a calm, methodical afternoon.
Choosing the Correct Hose and Clamps
Match two things: inside diameter and pressure rating. The inside diameter has to match the original so the hose grips the barbs correctly, and the pressure rating has to suit fuel injection rather than low pressure carburetor feed. Soft carburetor hose can balloon or seep at the fittings under injection pressure, so it is the wrong tool even though it looks similar on the rack.
Clamps deserve the same attention. Reusing the originals is a false economy, because old worm gear clamps lose their bite and old spring clips lose tension after years of heat. Buy new ones sized to the finished outside diameter of your hose. If the connection at the pump plate on your Grizzly is a plastic quick connect rather than a barb, that joint needs no clamp at all, but it may need a release tool to come apart without damage.
Everything Else on the Bench
- Nitrile or rubber gloves and eye protection
- Line clamping pliers, which take over the job the missing fuel valve would have done
- A sealed metal or fuel rated container plus a shallow drain pan
- Shop rags, more than you think you need
- A basic socket set and a flat blade screwdriver for the seat and side plastics
- A sharp utility knife for hose that refuses to release
About the fuel itself: gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks and travels along the floor rather than escaping through a window above your head. That makes a closed garage with a water heater, furnace, or shop heater a bad place to open a fuel line. Work outdoors when the weather cooperates, or with the door fully raised and a fan sweeping air across the floor. Shut down every pilot light and heating element, keep an extinguisher within reach, and carry fuel soaked rags outside instead of leaving them piled in a bin.
Why the Old Hose Is Due
Rubber fuel hose depends on plasticizers to stay flexible, and heat cycling drives those out of the wall over the years. The hose goes hard and glassy, stops flexing with the chassis, and starts cracking at bends and clamp shoulders. Riders in dry, low humidity country see this happen faster, since arid air pulls remaining moisture out of the hose wall.
Ethanol blended fuel works the bore instead. Alcohol attracts water and gradually attacks the inner liner, gumming and softening it, and the damage concentrates during long stretches when fuel stands still in the line rather than flowing. That is why a Grizzly stored with a partial tank can develop internal hose degradation without adding a mile. Together, those two mechanisms mean age is a fair reason to replace hose even on a machine that looks clean.
Symptoms That Confirm It
Before you order, verify the diagnosis. A puddle or damp patch on the skid plate after the machine has sat is the obvious one. A persistent gasoline smell around the middle of the quad, strongest in the minutes just after shutdown while pressure is still in the circuit, is nearly as telling. Look for surface cracking, crazing, or a chalky bloom on the hose, and pinch it to feel whether it has gone stiff. On the running side, an engine that bogs on a climb, stumbles under acceleration, or surges lean is behaving like a machine that cannot get enough fuel. Also check the fittings for a caked ring of dirt, which is what repeated weeping and evaporation leaves behind. Keep in mind that injected machines can leak on the pressure side without ever dripping, since the fuel atomizes, so a smell with no puddle still counts.
Bleeding Down and Pulling the Original
This Grizzly has no petcock, so the first move is to depressurize. Pull the fuel pump fuse from the box under the seat, run the engine until it starves and stops, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Take off the seat and the side plastics so the tank, pump plate, and full hose run to the throttle body are visible.
Set the drain pan under the joint and lay a rag over it as you release it, because a bled line still holds fuel. Slide the clamps well clear of the barbs before anything else. For a plastic quick connect, compress the release tabs squarely and pull the coupler straight off rather than levering it sideways, since a collar of this age cracks easily. Where hose has varnished onto a barb, rotate it gently to break the bond, and if it will not release, split it lengthwise with the knife and peel it off instead of prying on the fitting.
Take note of the routing before the hose is out. With four wheel drive, the front differential and its supporting frame structure create clearance points and clip locations a two wheel drive quad does not have, so a couple of photos now will keep the new hose on the correct path.
Installing It and Making Sure It Holds
Cut the new hose to the exact length of the old one. Surplus length is not neutral: it sags onto a frame tube where it will chafe, or drifts toward the exhaust where heat will cook it prematurely. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and do it completely dry. No grease, no oil, no silicone on the fittings — lubricant on a sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a channel to creep along. Warm water softens a stubborn end far better and leaves nothing behind.
Place the new clamps just behind the raised bead at each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug enough to seal without deforming the hose. Self locking quick connects get pressed on until the collar clicks and then tugged to confirm the latch, with no clamp added. Feed the hose back through every original clip so it stays clear of the front driveline and hot surfaces.
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the hose, letting you inspect the joints while they are still dry. Wipe them, look for any fuel beading, then start the engine and check once more at idle for a few minutes. One closing note: the filter on this platform sits inside the tank with the pump rather than inline where you could change it, so if fuel delivery still feels weak with fresh hose installed, that module is your next stop.
