They change the tools you need, the order of your steps, and where you look when something still is not right afterward.
The Fuel Path from Tank to Throttle Body
The AXi designation identifies this 722cc single as electronically fuel-injected. An electric pump sits submerged inside the fuel tank, and a regulator built into that same module holds the supply hose at a steady pressure any time the ignition is on. There is no petcock to close, no gravity feed, and no float bowl anywhere in the system. Meaningful pressure remains in the hose after the engine shuts down, which is the single fact that governs the removal procedure.
The filter follows the same design logic. It is part of the in-tank pump assembly rather than an inline canister spliced into the hose you can see with the plastics off. That is important for troubleshooting: replacing the line cures a cracked, hardened, or weeping hose, but a restricted filter element requires pulling the pump module. Do not expect fresh hose to fix a restriction sitting upstream of it.
How Age Ruins a Fuel Hose
The rubber depends on plasticizer compounds for its flexibility, and heat gradually drives those compounds out of the material. Every cycle from cold start to operating temperature and back takes a little more, and after a decade the hose wall has turned stiff and faintly glassy. A stiff hose can no longer flex with a chassis that twists across ruts and rock, so hairline splits open where it bends and grow deeper with use.
Two outside factors accelerate the decline. Arid climates with low humidity draw remaining moisture out of the rubber and harden hoses well ahead of what a rider in damp air experiences. Ethanol works from the inside instead: E10 pump gas absorbs atmospheric water, and a KingQuad parked through a long off-season with that mixture inside loses inner liner material to it steadily. A hose in that condition can look entirely presentable while shedding fine debris toward the injector.
Catching a Bad Line Early

- Damp staining or a small pool on the skid plate or garage floor after the machine has been parked overnight
- Fine surface cracking, a chalky bloom, or a section of hose that stays rigid when pinched firmly
- Bogging under load, hesitation on a snapped throttle, or the engine acting starved with fuel still showing on the gauge
- Grit stuck in a wet band at a fitting, evidence of a slow weep that keeps evaporating and collecting dirt
A pressurized circuit atomizes small leaks readily, so the mist frequently evaporates before it can form a drop on the floor. That makes a persistent odor one of the more dependable indicators available to you rather than something to shrug off.
Gathering What You Need and Working Safely
- Rubber or nitrile gloves plus eye protection
- A shallow drain pan and a sealed container rated for gasoline
- Hose rated for injection pressure, matched to the factory inside diameter
- New clamps of the correct style, and a quick-connect release tool if a locking coupler is fitted at the tank
- Line-clamping pliers, which substitute for the fuel valve this model does not have
- Metric sockets, a small flat driver, a razor knife, clean rags, and a work light
Ventilation is a genuine safety matter here, not boilerplate. Gasoline vapor is denser than air, so it sinks to floor level and spreads along the concrete until it reaches something hot or sparking. Work outdoors or immediately inside a wide open door, extinguish water heater and furnace pilots, unplug trickle chargers, move running electric motors out of the area, and keep a dry chemical extinguisher within arm's reach. Seal drained fuel immediately.
Depressurizing and Taking the Old Hose Off
Relieve pressure before a wrench touches a fitting. Pull the fuel pump fuse or unplug the relay, crank the starter until the engine sputters out on the fuel remaining in the rail, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. The line is now at atmospheric pressure and the pump is isolated.
Lift the seat and remove the front fender sections and side panels obstructing the tank outlet and the hose run. Slide the pan into place and drape a rag over the first connection you open, since a relieved hose still holds fuel that will spill when it parts. Retract clamps well back along the hose before disturbing the joint.
On a quick-connect coupler, depress both locking tabs squarely and pull straight off in line with the fitting rather than levering at an angle, which cracks plastic collars that have stiffened over the years. Twist a stubborn hose end gently on its barb to break the varnish bond, and if it refuses to release, run a razor along its length and peel it away to protect the fitting. Photograph the routing before the hose is fully free. This 4x4 chassis carries a front differential with its supporting frame structure, and the power steering hardware occupies part of that forward space, so the line takes a slightly longer path with more clearance points than a two-wheel-drive layout needs.
Fitting the New Line and Signing Off
Cut the replacement to match the original length exactly. Extra hose is not insurance; it will rub a frame tube or sag toward hot exhaust. Push each end fully onto its barb until it seats against the shoulder, and assemble everything dry. Grease, oil, and silicone all belong away from fuel fittings, because lubricant on a sealing surface hands pressurized gasoline a route out from beneath the clamp. Dip a tight hose end in hot water for thirty seconds and it will slide on without help.
Position fresh clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly, firm enough to seal without cutting into the rubber. Where the tank end uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until it clicks and then pull hard to verify the latch engaged; no clamp goes on that fitting. Return the hose to all its original retainers so it stays clear of the front driveline and hot engine surfaces.
Close out the job with a pressure test. Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off five or six times without cranking so the pump brings the line up to pressure while the area is still spotless. Inspect both joints, wipe them down, and check again by fingertip. Start the 2015 KingQuad 750AXi Power Steering, watch the connections at idle, rev it lightly, and look a third time.
