Working on the fuel system of a 2015 Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS is not difficult, but it does put you in direct contact with pressurized gasoline. That is worth more than a passing mention, because the difference between an uneventful repair and a genuinely dangerous one usually comes down to how the shop was set up before the first fitting came loose.

Setting Up a Space You Can Trust

Gasoline vapor is heavier than air. It does not rise and drift out a window — it sinks and collects along the floor, which is exactly where you will be kneeling. Open the shop door fully and get real air moving through the space, or better still, push the machine outside and work in the open. Then walk the area and remove ignition sources, paying particular attention to anything near ground level: an unvented shop heater, a drop light with an exposed hot bulb, a grinder or torch in the same bay, or a water heater pilot flame in an adjoining corner. Put on nitrile gloves, since gasoline strips skin oils quickly, and wear eye protection before you open a pressurized fitting. Keep an extinguisher within arm's reach, and cap the container of drained fuel immediately rather than letting an open pan sit beside you while you look for a tool.

How Fuel Reaches the Engine on This Model

This machine is fuel injected, and that shapes every step ahead. There is no petcock under the tank and no valve to shut. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes a line running forward to the throttle bodies on the 749cc twin, and the circuit holds that pressure well after the key is off. Opening a fitting on a live system means spraying fuel, not dribbling it, so pressure relief is the mandatory first move.

Two related points. The fuel filter is built into the in-tank pump module rather than sitting inline on the visible hose, so fresh hose will not cure a restricted filter. And the tank outlet may use a self-locking quick-connect coupler with a plastic collar and release tabs rather than a conventional clamped barb. Confirm which you have before applying force to anything.

The Reasons Rubber Fails

Two independent processes are at work. From the outside, the plasticizers that keep fuel hose supple migrate out of the wall over the years, leaving material that is hard and glassy. Heat from the V-twin speeds that up, and dry climates speed it further by pulling residual moisture out of the rubber. A hose with no flex left cannot cope with the vibration a heavy quad produces on rough ground, so fine checking becomes a crack and eventually a split.

From the inside, ethanol-blended fuel breaks down the liner. The alcohol content absorbs moisture and slowly degrades the inner surface, and gasoline that sits unused for months does the most damage. The compromised liner sheds fine rubber into the fuel stream, and on an injected engine that debris travels toward injector orifices measured in thousandths of an inch rather than into a forgiving float bowl.

Symptoms You Should Not Ride Past

  • A wet spot or puddle beneath the machine on the skid plate or garage floor after it has been parked
  • Strong gasoline odor around the tank, most noticeable right after shutdown while the line is still pressurized
  • Cracking, chalky surface bloom, or a section that feels rigid when you flex the hose in your fingers
  • A dust-caked dark ring at a fitting, which is dried fuel from repeated weeping
  • Bogging under load, hesitation on hard throttle, or the engine acting starved at higher rpm

Remember that pressurized fuel can atomize and evaporate before it drips, so a distinct smell with nothing visible on the floor is still worth chasing down.

Tools, Hose, and Clamps

Gather all of it in advance: replacement hose rated for fuel-injection pressure and matched to the original inside diameter, not general-purpose carburetor line; new clamps sized to the fittings you find; a quick-disconnect release tool if the tank uses a locking coupler; line-clamping pliers to pinch off any low-pressure section, since there is no petcock here; a sealed fuel container plus a drain pan; screwdrivers, a socket set for the plastics and tank hardware, a sharp utility blade, and plenty of rags.

Removal, Installation, and Verification

Start by relieving pressure. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine until it stalls, turn the key off, and disconnect the battery negative. Remove the seat and the side plastics blocking the tank outlet and the hose run heading back toward the throttle bodies. Slide a pan underneath and drape a rag over the first fitting you open, because residual fuel stays in the line even after bleed-down. Move any clamp well back before disturbing the fitting; with a quick-connect, depress the tabs squarely and pull straight off rather than levering sideways, since aged plastic collars crack under side load. Twist a varnish-bonded hose gently to break it loose, or slit it lengthwise and peel it off if it will not budge. Note the routing carefully, since this 4x4 chassis carries front differential hardware and additional frame crossmembers that a two-wheel-drive quad does not, adding clearance points along the run.

Cut the new hose to match the original length precisely, then push each end on dry until it bottoms against the barb shoulder. Nothing slick belongs on a fitting — grease, oil, or silicone on a sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a way out, and this is not a system that forgives that. Hot water softens a stiff end if you need help getting it seated. Set clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly; where the tank uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until the collar clicks and then pull firmly to confirm it has latched, and leave the clamp off that joint entirely. Reseat the hose in every factory clip, clear of the front driveline and away from exhaust heat.

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, then cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and loads the circuit, giving you a chance to inspect both connections while the area is still dry. Wipe each with a clean rag and look for any bead of fuel. Start the engine and check once more at idle, with operating pressure and vibration both present. After several leak-free minutes the plastics can go back on. If delivery still feels soft, the in-tank filter and pump module are the next thing to examine.
