Replacing the line before it reaches that point is inexpensive work, and it goes smoothly as long as you begin with a clear picture of how this machine delivers fuel to its engine.
Identifying the Fuel Delivery System
This Rancher is fuel injected. A pump mounted inside the tank pressurizes the supply hose and pushes fuel to the throttle body, and that pressure stays in the line long after the key is out. There is no petcock to rotate to off, no gravity feed, and no float bowl drain screw to empty — all of which belong to the earlier carbureted Ranchers rather than this one. Loosening a fitting without relieving pressure first sprays fuel, so the fuse comes out before any wrench comes into play.
Buy parts that match the system. Replacement hose must be rated for injection pressure in the original inside diameter, because soft carburetor tubing will swell or weep on a pressurized circuit. Look at the fittings too: plain barbs with clamps are common, and many injected machines use a self-locking quick-connect coupler at the tank flange that releases with an even squeeze on two tabs and needs no clamp when it goes back together.
Rubber, Ethanol, and Time
Fuel hose hardens because the softening agents blended into the rubber slowly migrate out under heat and airflow. The wall left behind is stiff and thin, and it cracks where the hose bends around a clip and absorbs the vibration of a working utility chassis. Quick-connect couplers release with even pressure on both tabs and a straight pull, never leverage, because aged plastic collars break easily. When old varnish has bonded a hose end to its barb, cut it lengthwise with a razor and peel it clear instead of forcing the fitting. As a 2x4, this Rancher keeps the run comparatively open, with no front differential or additional driveline hardware to navigate the way a four-wheel-drive model has, but photograph the clips anyway so the new hose goes back the same way.
Installing the New Hose
