There is one step on this job that is not optional, and skipping it is how riders end up hosing down a garage floor. The 2015 Outlander MAX 450L DPS is fuel injected, fed by an electric pump inside the tank, with no petcock anywhere in the system. The hose holds pressure after shutdown, so relieving that pressure comes before every other task.
Killing System Pressure First
The sequence is simple and worth doing in order. Pull the fuel pump fuse or its relay, then turn the key and let the engine run until it starves and stops on its own. Shut the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery cable so nothing can energize the pump while your hands are in the fuel circuit. Only now is it reasonable to open a fitting.
Even bled down, the hose still contains liquid fuel. Slide a drain pan into position and keep a rag draped over each joint as you break it. Expect a few ounces, not a gush, but plan for it either way.
Ventilation and Gasoline Handling
Gasoline vapor is heavier than air. It does not rise and disperse; it flows downhill and puddles at floor level where pilot lights, water heaters, battery chargers, and power tool switches live. Roll the machine outside if the weather cooperates, and if you must work in a garage, open the main door fully rather than relying on a cracked window. Shut down anything with a flame or a spark before you begin, wear nitrile gloves because gasoline strips skin oils fast, and put on eye protection since a pressurized coupler can spit sideways when it releases.
Why the Old Line Went Bad
Hose compounds contain softeners that keep the wall flexible, and years of engine heat drive those softeners out. What remains is stiff and glassy, and a stiff hose cannot absorb the vibration and chassis flex it used to shrug off. That is when hairline cracks start appearing, usually near the fittings where temperatures run highest.
Environment accelerates it in both directions. Arid climates pull moisture out of the hose wall and harden it from outside, while ethanol-blended pump gas holds water against the inner liner and degrades it from within. Fuel that sits for months during an off season leaves gum and varnish that restricts flow and bonds the hose to its barbs. A ten-year-old line on a 450L DPS is due regardless of how it looks.
Symptoms and the Parts List
Signs of a failing hose include a fuel smell that hangs around the tank after shutdown, a damp patch or stain on the skid plate, visible checking or a chalky feel where you pinch the hose, an engine that bogs or stumbles under load as if it were low on fuel, and a ring of caked dust at a fitting where seepage has dried repeatedly. On an injected machine, a pressurized leak often evaporates before it drips, so trust your nose over your eyes.

Removing the Hose Without Damaging Fittings
Strip the seat and the side plastics so the tank outlet and the full hose run to the throttle body are visible. Push spring clips or worm-gear clamps well back along the hose before disturbing the joint, which gives you room to work and keeps the clamp from gouging the barb.
Quick-connect fittings need the locking tabs compressed squarely and the coupler drawn straight off. Prying sideways cracks collars that have spent a decade heat cycling. At a barbed fitting, rotate the hose gently to break the varnish bond rather than yanking on it. If the hose has cemented itself in place, slit it lengthwise with a razor and peel it away; a destroyed hose is expected, a distorted fitting is not. Photograph the routing before the line is fully out. This is a 4x4 machine on the long MAX chassis, so the hose threads past front differential hardware and additional frame structure a two-wheel-drive quad does not carry, and power steering hardware sits in the same neighborhood.
Installation and the Final Leak Check
Cut the replacement to the original length with no slack added, since extra hose will find a frame edge or an exhaust surface to lean on. Push both ends fully home onto their barbs, dry. Do not apply grease, oil, or silicone to any fitting; lubricant on a sealing face is precisely how pressurized fuel finds an escape route. A stiff hose end softens in hot water within seconds if it resists. Seat new clamps just behind the bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly. Where a self-locking quick-connect is used, press until the collar clicks and confirm with a firm tug rather than adding a clamp it does not need.
Refit the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump repressurizes the line. Wipe each joint with a clean rag and study it for beading fuel. Start the engine, inspect again at idle, then once more after it warms and the hose expands slightly. Reinstall bodywork only after both ends prove dry. Bear in mind that the filter on this system is part of the in-tank pump module rather than an inline element, so persistent fuel starvation after a clean install points there next.
