Because this Grizzly is fuel injected, with an in tank pump keeping the line pressurized and no petcock anywhere under the tank, the replacement job has a specific order of operations that is worth understanding before you start pulling panels.

Preparation and the Gasoline Reality Check

Assemble your supplies first so you are never holding an open line while hunting for a tool:

  • Rubber or nitrile gloves and safety glasses
  • A drain pan plus a sealed container approved for gasoline storage
  • Injection rated replacement hose in the original inside diameter
  • New clamps matched to the style on your machine, and a quick connect release tool if needed
  • Line clamping pliers, which stand in for the fuel valve this model does not have
  • Razor blade, rags, and hand tools for the seat and side panels

Take the ventilation seriously. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and collects at ankle height where you cannot smell it well, so work outside or with the door wide open and a fan pushing air along the floor. Shut off water heaters and space heaters in the same space, skip the drop light with a hot bulb, and disconnect the battery negative terminal before the first fitting comes apart. A single rag draped over a connection catches most of what would otherwise run down the frame.

Why Rubber Lines Have a Service Life

Two separate processes attack the same piece of hose. From the outside, age and heat drive off the plasticizers that keep the compound flexible, leaving a wall that has gone hard and prone to cracking. Every warm up cycle from the big single nudges that along, and the constant vibration and frame flex of trail riding turns brittle sections into open splits. Dry desert and high plains air accelerates the whole process by pulling residual moisture out of the rubber.

From the inside, ethanol blended fuel breaks down the liner and holds water in suspension. Gasoline that sits through a long layup evaporates unevenly and leaves varnish behind, which both narrows the passage and flakes loose into the injection system. This is why a hose that looks acceptable can still be the reason your Grizzly stumbles under load, and why replacing it on age alone is reasonable maintenance.

Symptoms Owners Actually Notice

Failures announce themselves in a fairly predictable order. Watch for gasoline collecting on the skid plate or driveway, a fuel odor that clings around the seat area after shutdown, and hard, cracked, or ballooned spots at either end of the hose where it grips a fitting. Performance symptoms follow: a bog when you open the throttle, a lean surge on hills, or an engine that behaves as though the tank were low when it is not.

One nuance applies specifically to injected machines like this one. A leak on the pressure side can vaporize instantly and leave nothing to see, so a strong smell without a puddle is still worth chasing. Turn the key to on without starting, let the pump build pressure, and inspect the joints closely with a light and a clean rag.

Removing the Tired Line

Depressurize before anything else. Pull the fuel pump fuse from the block under the seat, attempt to start the engine so it consumes what is left in the line, then key off and disconnect the battery. Remove the seat and the center bodywork, then trace the hose from the tank outlet forward to the throttle body, photographing the clips and guides as you uncover them.

Slide clamps well back along the hose before twisting anything. Varnish glues aged rubber to a barb, and pulling hard on a plastic fitting that has been baked and frozen for years is how you turn a hose job into a tank pump job. Slit the old hose lengthwise with a razor and peel it off instead. Quick connect couplers release by squeezing the tabs squarely and pulling straight, with no side loading. On this 4x4 the run passes near front differential hardware and additional frame bracing, so note which side of each brace it travels on while it is still in place.

Installing the New Hose Correctly

Cut the replacement to the same length as the original. A hose that is too long will rub a frame tube or drift toward the exhaust once everything is buttoned up. Seat each end fully onto its barb, right up to the shoulder, and install it completely dry. No grease, oil, or silicone belongs on a fuel fitting, because any film there gives pressurized gasoline a route past the seal. Warm water softens a stiff hose end enough to push on by hand.

Position the fresh clamps just inboard of the raised bead and tighten them evenly, firm enough to seal without biting into the rubber. If either end uses a self locking quick connect, listen for the click and then pull on it to confirm engagement; that fitting needs no clamp at all. Reinstall the hose into every original clip so it stays clear of hot and moving parts.

Leak Check and Final Assembly

Refit the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times so the pump pressurizes the line without the engine running. Inspect both connections with a dry rag between cycles, since fresh fuel shows clearly against clean rubber. Start the Grizzly and let it idle while you look one more time, paying attention to the tank end where access is tightest.

If everything stays dry, reinstall the plastics and the seat. Should fuel delivery still feel weak after a proper install, remember that this injected Grizzly carries its filter inside the tank as part of the pump module rather than inline on the hose you just replaced, and that assembly becomes the next logical suspect.
