How to Renew the Fuel Line on a 2014 Grizzly 700 4x4

Fuel hose is a wear item, even though nobody treats it like one. Brake pads get checked, oil gets changed, and the rubber carrying gasoline to the engine gets ignored until it leaks. On a 2014 Grizzly 700 that hose has aged past its comfortable service life, and replacing it before it fails is a modest job with a real payoff.
Aging From Both Sides at Once
The compound in a fuel hose relies on plasticizers to stay flexible, and heat is the enemy of those compounds. Hundreds of warmup and cooldown cycles around a 686cc single slowly drive them out of the hose wall, and what is left behind is hard and glassy. Hardened hose cannot flex with a chassis that is constantly twisting over rough terrain, so cracks begin at the bends, at clamp shoulders, and anywhere the hose is under a bit of tension. Dry climates make it worse, because low humidity pulls residual moisture out of the wall and speeds up the whole process.
The inside of the hose has its own problem. Ethanol blended pump gas draws in atmospheric moisture and slowly works on the inner liner, leaving gumming and softened material behind. That effect is strongest when fuel sits still for long stretches, so a Grizzly parked for a season with a partial tank ages its plumbing internally without a single mile passing. The upshot is that a hose can pass a casual glance while being weak in both directions, and on a machine of this year, age alone is enough reason to swap it.
Clues Something Is Already Wrong
Before you tear into it, see whether the machine is already telling you:
- A fuel puddle or damp streak on the skid plate or the floor beneath the middle of the quad
- A distinct gasoline odor that hangs around after shutdown while the system still holds pressure
- Visible checking, fine cracks, or a chalky bloom on the hose surface
- A stiff, unyielding feel when you pinch the hose instead of the soft compression it had when new
- The engine bogging under load, stumbling on throttle, or surging lean as though the tank were nearly dry
- Dirt packed into a ring at either fitting, which is what fuel leaves behind when it weeps and evaporates over and over
Because this quad is injected, small leaks on the pressure side can vaporize instead of dripping. A steady smell with a dry floor beneath it is still a legitimate reason to pull the panels and look.
Injection, Not Carburetion — What That Changes
The 2014 Grizzly 700 is fuel injected. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes the line and feeds the throttle body, which means gravity plays no part and there is no fuel valve under the tank to shut off. Two practical consequences follow. First, the replacement hose has to be rated for injection pressure; ordinary carburetor hose is not built for this duty. Second, the circuit stays pressurized after the key is off, and it must be bled down before you open a fitting or you will get sprayed rather than dribbled on.
The filter is also somewhere you might not expect. It lives inside the tank as part of the pump assembly rather than sitting inline on the hose you can reach. New hose resolves cracked, leaking, or collapsing hose, but a restricted in-tank filter is a separate matter and stays the prime suspect if starvation symptoms persist.
Gathering Supplies and Setting Up the Space
Put all of this together before you begin: injection rated hose in the original inside diameter, new clamps sized to it, a quick connect release tool if the pump plate uses a locking coupler, line clamping pliers to take the place of the missing shutoff, nitrile gloves, eye protection, a sealed fuel container, a drain pan, rags, sockets, a screwdriver, and a sharp knife.
Then deal with the air you are breathing. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools across the floor instead of drifting out an open window overhead, which makes a closed garage with a water heater or shop heater in it a genuinely poor choice for fuel work. Do the job outdoors if the weather allows, or with the door fully raised and a fan pushing air at floor level. Shut off pilot lights and heating elements, keep an extinguisher close, and put fuel soaked rags outside rather than in a shop bin.
Removal Without Collateral Damage
Bleed the system: pull the fuel pump fuse from under the seat, run the engine until it stalls from starvation, key off, then disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and side plastics and follow the hose from the pump plate to the throttle body so you know the whole run.
Slide a drain pan under the joint and drape a rag over it before opening, because residual fuel remains even in a bled line. Walk the clamps clear of the barbs first. On a plastic quick connect, squeeze the release tabs evenly and pull the coupler straight off; a sideways pry will fracture a collar that has spent a decade getting brittle. Varnished hose should be twisted gently to break its bond with the barb, and if it will not budge, slice it lengthwise and peel it off rather than prying on the fitting.
Note the path the hose takes on the way out. The 4x4 driveline adds front differential hardware and additional frame structure to work around, and the hose is clipped to clear it. Photograph those clips and clearance points before the original is gone.
Fitting the New Hose and Verifying the Seal
Match the replacement to the old hose length precisely, since surplus length lets the hose sag onto a frame tube to chafe or drift toward the header. Push each end fully home on its barb, dry. Leave grease, oil, and silicone out of it completely; lubricant on a sealing surface is exactly the sort of path pressurized fuel uses to creep out. A few seconds in hot water will soften a stubborn end far better than any lubricant.
Seat new clamps just behind the raised bead at each fitting, tightened evenly and snug without crushing. A self locking quick connect takes no clamp: press it on until the collar clicks, then tug firmly to be certain it latched. Route the hose back through the original clips so it hangs clear of the front driveline and exhaust heat.
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, then cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle primes the pump and pressurizes the hose, letting you check both joints while they are dry so even a slow weep shows itself. Wipe the fittings, look closely, then start the engine and inspect again at idle. Several minutes of clean, dry running means you are done and the bodywork can go back on.
