Get the Hose and Clamps Sorted First
Hose choice makes or breaks this repair. It must be rated for the pressure an injected system produces, and it must match the inside diameter of the piece you are removing. Hose that measures oversized will never seal properly on the barb regardless of clamp torque, and hose intended for low-pressure gravity feed can swell or seep once the pump loads it. Buy fresh clamps in the style the machine uses rather than reinstalling hardware that has been compressing the same spot for a decade, and if the fitting turns out to be a locking quick-connect, add the release tool for it.

Vapor, Ventilation, and Common Sense
This is the one genuine safety point in the job, and it rests on a simple fact. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it flows downhill and collects along the floor instead of rising and dispersing through a cracked window. That is the same height as furnace pilots, water heater burners, battery chargers, and any dropped light with a hot filament. Roll the machine outside if the weather allows. The Two-Sided Attack on Fuel Hose

A Quick Inspection Routine

Disconnecting Without a Spill
Pull the fuel pump fuse, run the engine until it stalls out on its own, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable so the pump cannot energize while the line is open. Remove the seat and the panel covering the tank outlet, slide a catch pan into position, and drape a rag over the joint you plan to break, since fuel stays in the hose even with pressure relieved.
Slide clamps well back along the hose rather than fighting them where they sit. A quick-connect coupler releases when both tabs are depressed squarely and it is pulled straight off, never levered to one side against a collar that has aged in engine heat. Where varnish has glued the hose to its barb, twist gently to break the bond, or slit the hose lengthwise and peel it away rather than damaging the fitting. This being a 4x4 with an automatic transmission, the hose runs closer to front differential and driveshaft hardware than on a two-wheel-drive Rancher, so note the routing and every retaining clip while the old piece is still in the frame.
New Line In, Leak Check Done
Cut the replacement to the same length as the original, push each end fully onto its barb until it seats against the shoulder, and keep both fittings dry. Grease, oil, and silicone spray on a fuel connection leave a film that pressurized gasoline can follow out from under a clamp, which is the usual reason a repair weeps a week later. Warm water softens a stubborn hose end. Place each clamp just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly to snug. Where a self-locking quick-connect is used, push until it clicks and confirm engagement with a firm pull rather than adding a clamp. Route the hose through its original guides and verify clearance to the exhaust and front driveline with the bars swept lock to lock.
Then pressurize and inspect. Look with a light, wipe the fittings, and look again. Start the engine, check at idle, blip the throttle, and check a final time before the plastics return.
