The 2013 KingQuad 750AXi carries a 722cc single fed by electronic fuel injection, and that means the hose running from the tank to the throttle body holds pressure even after the key is off. Everything below assumes you respect that.

Gather Your Supplies Before the Tank Comes Apart

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves, plus eye protection for the moment a fitting lets go unexpectedly
  • A sealed metal or fuel-rated container to catch whatever drains out
  • Replacement hose rated for injection pressure and matched to the original inside diameter
  • Fresh clamps in the correct style, or a quick-connect release tool if your machine uses a locking coupler at the tank
  • Line-clamping pliers, since there is no petcock on this model to shut flow off
  • Metric sockets and a Phillips driver for the seat latch, front fender fasteners, and tank straps
  • Shop rags, a razor knife, and a flashlight for tracing routing under the fender

Do this work outside or with the overhead door fully open. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor level, so a cracked window six feet up does nothing for you. Kill any pilot lights, space heaters, or battery chargers in the building first.

Confirming What You Are Working With: Injection, Not a Carburetor

The AXi badge on the side of this 750 is the tell. Suzuki moved the big KingQuad to electronic fuel injection well before 2013, so you will not find a petcock lever under the left side of the tank the way you would on the carbureted 400 that shared the showroom floor. Instead, an electric pump lives inside the tank, submerged in fuel, and it pushes gas up to the throttle body through a hose held at a constant pressure by a regulator built into the pump module.

Two practical consequences follow. First, you cannot simply turn a valve and walk away while the line drains, which is why the clamping pliers earn their place on the list. Second, the fuel filter on this machine is part of the in-tank pump assembly rather than a clear plastic canister spliced into the visible hose. A new line will not cure a restricted filter, so keep that in mind if delivery problems linger after the repair.

Why Fuel Hose Wears Out on a Machine This Age

Rubber fuel line does not fail suddenly so much as it quietly stops being rubber. The plasticizers that keep the hose supple migrate out over years of heat cycling, and what began as a soft, squeezable tube turns stiff and glassy. Once the wall loses its flexibility, every hot shutdown on the trail and every chassis twist over rocks works microscopic splits into the surface until one of them reaches through.

Climate accelerates this. Riders in dry, high-elevation country watch hoses harden noticeably faster because low humidity draws moisture out of the rubber from the outside in. Ethanol-blended pump gas attacks from the opposite side. When a KingQuad sits through a long off-season with E10 in the system, alcohol in the blend pulls in water and slowly breaks down the inner liner, softening it while the exterior continues to stiffen. The hose can look fine and still be shedding particles toward your injector.

Catching Trouble Before It Strands You

Failing line usually gives warning if you know the signs:

  • A damp patch or small puddle on the skid plate or the concrete beneath the tank after the quad has been parked overnight
  • Gasoline smell around the seat area, strongest in the first few minutes after shutdown while the circuit still holds pressure
  • Visible fine cracking, a chalky white surface texture, or a section that feels hard and unyielding when you pinch it
  • Bogging under load, a stumble when you snap the throttle, or the engine acting starved at higher rpm
  • A ring of dust caked around a fitting, which marks a slow weep that has been evaporating and collecting grit

On a pressurized system a small leak often atomizes and evaporates before it drips, so your nose will frequently find the problem before your eyes do. Take a fuel smell seriously even when the floor stays dry.

Bleeding Pressure and Pulling the Old Hose

Relieve pressure first. Pull the fuel pump fuse or unplug the pump relay, crank the engine until it stumbles and dies, then switch the key off and disconnect the battery negative cable. That sequence drops the circuit to atmospheric pressure and takes the pump out of the picture entirely.

Lift the seat and remove enough of the front fender and side panels to see the tank neck and the hose run heading back toward the throttle body. Slide a drain pan underneath and drape a rag over the first fitting you open, because even a depressurized line still holds a good swallow of fuel that will run out the instant it separates.

Push worm-gear or spring clamps well back along the hose before disturbing the connection. If you find a quick-connect coupler, squeeze the locking tabs squarely and pull straight off without levering sideways, since those plastic collars grow brittle and crack. Twist the old hose gently on the barb to break the varnish bond rather than yanking on it. When a hose refuses to release, slit it lengthwise with a razor and peel it away instead of risking damage to the fitting underneath.

Trace and photograph the routing as it comes out. This is a 4x4 chassis with a front differential and its associated crossmembers, so the line threads past hardware a two-wheel-drive quad simply does not have. Note every clip, guide, and clearance point before the old hose is fully free of the frame.

Seating the Replacement Line

Cut the new hose to match the original length exactly. Extra length is not insurance, it is a chafe point that will rub a frame tube or drift toward the exhaust. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms against the shoulder, and do the work dry. No grease, no oil, no silicone spray on the sealing surface, because any lubricant there gives pressurized fuel a path to creep past the clamp. If the hose fights you, dip the end in hot water for thirty seconds to soften it and it will slide on unaided.

Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug enough to seal without cutting into the rubber. Where a self-locking quick-connect is used at the tank, push until it clicks and then tug firmly to confirm the latch has engaged. That style of fitting needs no clamp at all. Finish by returning the hose to its original clips so it stays clear of the front driveline and hot engine surfaces.

The Leak Check That Ends the Job

Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, then cycle the key on and off four or five times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the line, giving you a chance to inspect both joints while the surrounding area is still bone dry. Wipe everything down with a clean rag and look again.

Start the engine and let it idle while you watch the fittings under running pressure, then blip the throttle a few times and check once more. Only after several minutes of leak-free operation should the fenders and seat go back on. Take a short low-speed lap of the yard on your 2013 KingQuad 750AXi before heading for real terrain, then park it and put your hand under each connection one final time.
