Swapping a fuel hose on a 2013 Rincon 680 is not difficult work, but it is the one routine job where a careless setup can genuinely hurt you. This quad carries a pressurized fuel system, and the liquid you are about to spill evaporates into vapor that is heavier than air. Sort out the workspace first, then the mechanical part takes care of itself.

Gasoline, Vapor, and Where It Goes

Gasoline vapor sinks. It rolls off the machine, spreads across the floor, and settles in low spots where your nose is least likely to catch it and where a pilot light, a battery terminal, or a dropped extension cord is most likely to ignite it. Open the garage door completely and put a box fan on the ground moving air out of the space rather than trusting a window six feet up. Shut off any water heater, shop heater, or furnace with a standing flame in the same room. Disconnect the negative battery cable so nothing can arc while a fitting is open, keep a fire extinguisher where you can reach it without stepping over the quad, and cap your recovery container every time you set it down. Nitrile or rubber gloves are not optional either, since gasoline strips the natural oils out of your skin fast.

What You Will Need

  • Hose rated for fuel injection pressure, matching the original inside diameter
  • Fresh clamps sized to the fittings, plus a quick connect release tool if a locking coupler is present
  • Line clamping pliers, since this Rincon has no petcock to shut off flow
  • Eye protection and a generous supply of rags
  • A drain pan and a sealable metal or fuel rated container
  • Small sockets, a flat blade screwdriver, a funnel, and a sharp utility blade

Confirming Injection on This Model

The 2013 Rincon 680 is fuel injected, which is why there is no fuel valve under the tank and no float bowl to drain. An electric pump inside the tank feeds the throttle body under pressure, and that pressure remains in the line well after the engine has stopped. The fuel filter is part of the in tank pump assembly instead of being an inline component on the hose you can see. Some connections use a self locking quick connect coupler that needs no clamp at all.

The 4x4 driveline shapes the routing rather than the procedure. A front differential and driveshaft fill the forward frame and independent rear suspension hardware sits behind, so the hose is clipped along a course that keeps it clear of turning parts and hot exhaust. Duplicate that path when the new hose goes in.

Why Hoses Wear Out and How to Tell

Fuel line ages chemically. The plasticizers that keep rubber flexible migrate out over the years, leaving material that stiffens and then cracks wherever it bends. Heat cycling from the 675cc engine, sunlight, and ozone all accelerate that, and dry climates accelerate it most of all, since arid air draws moisture out of the hose wall and leaves a hard, glassy surface. Ethanol blended gasoline attacks from the inside at the same time, absorbing atmospheric moisture and degrading the inner liner while leaving gum and varnish at each barb, particularly when fuel sits unused for months.

The symptoms to look for are consistent: a gasoline smell that is strongest right after shutdown, a puddle or damp stain under the frame, visible cracking or a chalky feel to the hose, a caked ring of dirt at a fitting where fuel has been seeping, and an engine that bogs, hesitates under load, or behaves as though it is starved for fuel. On a pressurized system a leak can atomize and evaporate before it drips, so a persistent smell with a clean floor still warrants investigation.

Relieving Pressure and Getting the Hose Off

Remove the fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank the engine for a few seconds until it stalls or refuses to fire. Turn the key off and disconnect the battery negative cable. Take off the seat and the plastic panels covering the tank so both ends of the hose are accessible. Slide the drain pan underneath and lay a rag over the first joint you plan to separate, because residual fuel remains in the hose even after pressure is gone.

Move each clamp well back along the hose before you touch the fitting. On a quick connect, compress the locking tabs squarely and pull straight off — levering sideways cracks collars that have gone brittle with age. Break the varnish bond at the barb with a gentle quarter turn twist, then pull the hose off steadily. If it will not budge, slice it lengthwise with your blade and peel it away instead of prying on the pump module or the throttle body fitting. As the hose comes free, photograph every clip and note the clearance it held from the front driveline components.

Installation and Verification

Cut the replacement to the exact length of the original. A long hose chafes against the frame or kinks in a tight bend, and a short one holds tension on both barbs. Push each end on dry until it seats against the shoulder, softening stubborn rubber with a brief dip in hot water. Keep grease, oil, and silicone entirely off the fittings; lubricant on a sealing face gives pressurized fuel a path out and lets the hose walk off the barb over time. Fit new clamps just behind the raised bead on each spigot and tighten them evenly, firm enough to seal without biting into the rubber. Where a self locking coupler is used, push until it clicks and then tug hard to confirm the latch has engaged.

Return the hose to its original clips, reinstall the pump fuse, and Reconnect the battery. Cycle the key on and off several times without cranking; each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit so you can examine clean, dry fittings under working pressure. Wipe both joints, look again, then start the engine and check a third time at idle while it vibrates. Finish with a short slow loop and one final inspection before the bodywork goes back on. If fuel delivery still feels weak with no leaks anywhere, the in tank filter and pump assembly is the next component to examine.
