Symptoms That Send Owners Looking
Fuel odor near the seat and tank is the most common opening complaint, and it is loudest in the first few minutes after shutdown while the system still holds residual pressure. From there, look low: a drip trail, a damp shadow, or a real puddle beneath the right side of the engine points at either the tank outlet joint or the throttle body end. The Mechanics of Rubber Failure
Two independent processes are wearing the hose out. From the outside, heat cycling drives the flexibility-preserving compounds out of the rubber over the years until the wall is stiff. A stiff hose cannot absorb the flex that a working chassis puts through it, so hairline cracks form and slowly deepen. Arid climates hasten this, because dry air pulls moisture from the outer surface.
From the inside, ethanol-blended fuel goes after the liner. The alcohol carries water into the system and slowly degrades the inner wall, and gasoline that stands in the line while the quad waits between jobs leaves gum and varnish behind. Gathering Supplies and Working Safely

Cap the container between pours.
Getting the Old Hose Out of the Chassis
Start by taking the pressure out. Pull the fuel pump fuse, run the engine until it stalls, key off, then disconnect the negative battery cable so nothing can spin the pump while the line is open. Remove the seat and any panel in the way of the tank outlet, then trace the hose to its lower fitting.
Slide the pan into place and drape a rag over the joint before you break it, since fuel stays in the hose after pressure is relieved. Walk spring or worm-gear clamps well back along the hose rather than fighting them at the fitting. Quick-connects release by depressing both tabs squarely and pulling straight off; angled prying cracks collars that have aged in engine heat. If varnish has bonded the hose to its barb, break it loose with a gentle twist, or slit the hose lengthwise and peel it away rather than damaging the fitting. This is a 4x4 with power steering, so expect the hose to run nearer front driveline hardware and pass an extra clearance point or two compared with a two-wheel-drive Rancher. Note each clip before the old piece leaves the frame.
Installing the New Line
Cut the replacement to match the original length exactly, since a long hose leans on something hot or sharp and a short one keeps tension on both fittings. Push each end fully onto its barb until it seats against the shoulder, and assemble everything dry. Grease, oil, and silicone spray must not touch a fuel fitting, because a lubricant film on the sealing surface gives pressurized gasoline a path out from under the clamp. If a hose end resists, a brief soak in hot water is the correct fix.
Position each new clamp just behind the raised bead on its fitting and tighten evenly to snug rather than crushed. Where the machine uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until you feel the click and confirm engagement with a firm pull. That style takes no clamp. Route the hose back through every factory guide and check clearance to the exhaust and the front driveshaft with the bars turned both ways.
Confirming the Repair Holds
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump long enough to pressurize the line while both joints are still clean enough to show a fresh wet spot. Inspect with a light, wipe both fittings, and inspect again. Then start the engine, check at idle, blip the throttle, and check one final time before any bodywork goes back on.
One structural detail to keep in your back pocket: the fuel filter on this injected Rancher is integrated into the pump assembly inside the tank rather than sitting inline on the hose you just replaced. New hose ends a leak and cures a collapsed section, but a restricted in-tank filter causes the same lean, bogging behavior. If the machine still feels starved after a dry, properly clamped installation, that assembly is where the search continues.
