Fuel Line Replacement Steps for a 2011 Grizzly 700 4x4 EPS

Every step of this job hinges on one thing that has to happen first. The 2011 Grizzly 700 EPS is fuel injected, with an electric pump inside the tank keeping the hose under pressure, and that pressure does not disappear when you turn the key off. Release it properly and the rest of the replacement is calm work with ordinary hand tools.
Releasing the Pressure Correctly
Lift the seat and locate the fuse box. Pull the fuel pump fuse, then start the engine and let it run until it coughs and dies on its own, which drains the pressurized side of the circuit. Turn the key off and disconnect the negative battery cable so the pump cannot be energized while you are working. Only then should the plastics start coming off.
This step exists because there is no petcock on this Grizzly. On a carbureted quad you would reach under the tank and close a valve; here there is nothing to close, and the tank will happily siphon through an open hose. Line clamping pliers are the answer once the circuit is opened, pinching the hose shut so fuel stays where it belongs.
Working the Old Hose Free
With the seat and side panels off, follow the hose from the pump plate on the tank back to the throttle body so you understand the entire run before disturbing it. Slip a drain pan underneath and lay a rag over each joint before you open it, because a bled line still carries residual fuel that will run the instant it comes loose.
Walk the clamps down the hose and away from the barbs first. If the pump plate uses a plastic quick connect, compress its release tabs squarely and draw the coupler straight off the nipple — a sideways pry will fracture a collar that has spent more than a decade hardening. Hose that has varnished itself onto a barb should be twisted gently to break the bond, and if it still refuses to release, slit it lengthwise with a sharp knife and peel it away rather than prying on the fitting, which costs far more than the hose does.
Record the routing before the original leaves the machine. This is a four wheel drive chassis with electric power steering, so front differential hardware and the steering assist unit both take up room around the front of the frame that a bare 2WD machine would not have, and the hose is clipped to clear it all. Photograph the clips and clearance points while the old hose is still in position.
Parts Selection and Fume Safety
You need hose rated for fuel injection pressure in the original inside diameter, not the soft low pressure hose sold for carburetor feed. Add new clamps sized correctly, a quick connect release tool if there is a locking coupler at the pump plate, line clamping pliers, nitrile gloves, eye protection, a sealed fuel container, a drain pan, plenty of rags, basic sockets, a screwdriver, and a sharp utility knife.
Now the part that genuinely matters. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks and spreads along the floor rather than escaping through a window at head height. A closed garage containing a water heater, furnace, or shop heater is a poor place to open a pressurized fuel line. Work outdoors if the weather allows, or with the overhead door fully raised and a fan moving air across the floor to push vapor out at ground level. Shut down every pilot light and heating element in the space, keep a fire extinguisher within reach, and carry fuel soaked rags outside instead of dropping them in a shop bin.
Understanding Why It Failed
Fuel hose loses its plasticizers to heat over the years, and once those flexible compounds are gone the rubber turns hard and glassy. A stiff hose cannot move with a chassis that flexes constantly over rough terrain, so hairline splits open at the bends and at the shoulders where clamps grip. Riders in dry, low humidity country get there sooner, since arid air draws remaining moisture out of the hose wall from the outside.
Inside the hose, ethanol blended pump gas attracts moisture and slowly degrades the inner liner into gum and softened material. That damage is worst during long stretches when the machine sits with fuel standing motionless against the liner rather than flowing through. The two processes are independent, so a hose can look acceptable outside while quietly becoming the weakest link in the fuel system.
The Signs You Were Probably Seeing
- Fuel pooling on the skid plate or dripping to the floor after the quad has sat
- A sharp gasoline smell around the center of the machine in the minutes after shutdown
- Cracking, crazing, or a chalky bloom on the hose, most obvious at the curves
- A hard, brittle feel when you pinch the hose rather than soft compression
- Bogging under load, hesitation on throttle, or a lean surge like a nearly empty tank
- A caked ring of dirt at a fitting, the residue of slow weeping and evaporation
An injected machine can leak on the pressure side without dripping at all, because the fuel atomizes into vapor, so a smell over a dry floor still counts.
Buttoning It Up With Fresh Hose
Cut the replacement to the same length as the old hose and no longer, since surplus length sags onto a frame tube where it chafes or drifts toward the exhaust and cooks early. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and assemble everything dry. Grease, oil, and silicone have no business on a sealing surface, because lubricant hands pressurized fuel a channel to creep out through. Warm water for a few seconds is the correct trick for a hose end that fights you.
Seat new clamps just behind the raised bead at each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug enough to seal without deforming the hose. A self locking quick connect gets no clamp: press it on until the collar clicks, then tug hard to confirm the latch engaged. Feed the hose back through every original clip so it stays clear of the front driveline, the steering hardware, and hot exhaust surfaces.
Reinstall the fuel pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and brings the hose up to pressure, letting you inspect both joints while they are still dry, which is exactly when a slow weep is easiest to catch. Wipe the fittings clean, look and feel for any fuel beading up, then start the engine and inspect a second time at idle for several minutes. One last note worth keeping: the filter on this Grizzly lives inside the tank with the pump rather than inline on the hose, so if fuel delivery still feels weak with fresh plumbing installed, that module is the next place to look.
