How to Change the Fuel Line on a 2011 Grizzly 350 4x4

A 2011 Grizzly 350 4x4 uses a carburetor and a manual fuel valve, which means this job involves no pressurized fuel, no diagnostic tools, and no waiting for a pump circuit to bleed down. Understanding that up front saves confusion and keeps gasoline where it belongs.
Identify the Fuel System Before You Start
Look under the tank on this 350 and you will find a mechanical valve with ON, OFF, and reserve positions. From that valve a single rubber line drops to the carburetor inlet, fed purely by gravity, and the carburetor's float bowl at the bottom carries a drain screw. That is the whole delivery system. Riders coming from a newer fuel-injected utility quad instinctively reach for a pump fuse or wonder how to relieve rail pressure, and on those machines they would also face a possible quick-connect coupler and an in-tank filter. This carbureted 350 has none of that, and the simplicity is exactly why the repair is approachable.
Being a 4x4, it carries a front differential and drive shaft under the frame. The fuel line consequently runs a little longer and passes an additional clearance point compared with a two-wheel-drive version of the same platform. That does not change the steps, but it does mean paying attention to how the hose is clipped and routed before you remove it.
The Slow Death of a Fuel Hose
Fuel line ages by the calendar. The rubber compound needs plasticizers to remain flexible, and heat cycling from the air-cooled engine drives them out season after season. Once the hose hardens, it stops absorbing chassis flex and starts cracking, usually right at the bend below the valve. Dry, low-humidity climates speed this up because arid air pulls moisture from the hose wall and stiffens it from the outside in.
Meanwhile ethanol-blended pump gas works on the inner liner. Alcohol carries water into the fuel and degrades the inside surface, which softens and releases fine debris toward the carburetor jets. Fuel that sits unused for months leaves gum and varnish behind as it evaporates, restricting the bore and bonding the rubber to the fittings. Both processes are ordinary consequences of age and modern fuel, and both argue for replacing hose on a schedule rather than waiting for a failure.
What Tips Owners Off
The usual warnings:
- Fuel pooling under the quad or streaking down the frame after parking
- A persistent gasoline smell around the tank area
- Cracks, splits, or a chalky gray finish on the hose surface
- Hose that feels rigid when pinched, or soft and swollen right at the barbs
- The engine bogging under load, stumbling on climbs, or running lean as if the tank were low
- Dirt caked into a ring at a fitting where fuel has seeped and dried
Owners often start with carburetor cleaners and spark plugs when the real culprit is a restricted hose. A partially collapsed line delivers enough for idle and comes up short the second the engine demands volume, which is the classic symptom pattern here.
Bench Setup and Gasoline Discipline
Assemble the following:
- Fuel-rated hose in the correct inside diameter, cut generously and trimmed to fit
- New clamps or spring clips, since reused clips lose tension
- Gloves and eye protection
- A sealed approved fuel can and a shallow catch pan
- Screwdrivers, pliers, sockets, a sharp blade, and clean rags
- A work light for following the hose past the front driveline
Gasoline deserves genuine caution. Its vapor is heavier than air, so it drifts down and collects at floor level right where water heater pilots, chargers, and outlets sit. Do this outdoors if the weather cooperates, and if you have to stay inside, open the door completely and turn off anything that cycles or sparks. Seal the drained fuel immediately and keep an extinguisher within reach without walking around the machine.
Draining Down and Removing the Line
Turn the fuel valve to OFF and pull the seat plus whatever panel blocks your view of the tank underside. Slide the pan under the carburetor, back out the float bowl drain screw, let the bowl empty through its overflow tube, and close the screw. With the valve shut and the bowl empty, the hose holds almost nothing.
Push the clamp at the carburetor end well back along the hose. Twist the hose a quarter turn to break the varnish bond, then work it off the barb with steady, patient pressure. If the rubber has hardened onto the fitting, slit it lengthwise with the knife and peel it off instead of levering against the aluminum inlet. Repeat at the valve end, releasing the hose from each clip and guiding it past the front drive components. Inspect the valve screen for sediment while you have access — on a carbureted machine that is your serviceable filter, whereas an injected quad keeps its filter inside the tank with the pump module.
Installing the New Hose the Right Way
Lay the removed hose next to the new stock and cut square at the same length. Slack is not helpful: on a 4x4 it can wander toward the front drive shaft or a hot exhaust, and a high loop may trap air in a gravity feed. Press each end onto its barb until it seats fully against the shoulder, and do this dry. No grease, no oil, no silicone spray on the fittings — lubricant defeats the seal and lets vibration walk the hose off over time. If the new hose is stiff, warm the end briefly in hot water.
Position each clamp just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly, snug enough to hold without cutting into the rubber. Route the line through the original clips with a continuous downhill slope, confirm clearance from the differential hardware and exhaust, then tug both ends to verify they are locked on.
Verification and Cleanup
Open the fuel valve and hold still for a full minute with a dry rag under each joint, looking for even a trace of fuel. Start the engine and let it idle while the float bowl fills, then examine both connections and the ground under the quad again. Rev it a few times to work the system and take one more look with your light. Once everything reads dry, reinstall the panel and seat, mop up any spilled fuel, and dispose of the drained gas and old hose responsibly. Your 2011 Grizzly 350 4x4 should now start crisply and pull without a hint of fuel starvation.
