How to Change the Fuel Line on a 2011 Suzuki KingQuad 750AXi 4x4 Power Steering

Buying the right hose is half the battle on a 2011 KingQuad 750AXi Power Steering. This machine is fuel-injected, so general-purpose carburetor line is not an acceptable substitute regardless of how well it fits the barb. Get the part specification correct and the rest of the job is well within reach of an owner with basic hand tools.
Parts and Tools You Actually Need
- Replacement hose rated for fuel injection pressure, matched to the factory inside diameter rather than eyeballed
- New clamps of the correct style, plus a quick-connect release tool if a locking coupler sits at the tank
- Line-clamping pliers, which take the place of the petcock this model does not have
- Nitrile or rubber gloves and eye protection
- A shallow drain pan and a sealed container rated for gasoline
- Metric sockets, a small flat driver, a razor knife, clean rags, and a bright work light
Undersized hose will not seat properly on the fittings and oversized hose will not seal under a clamp. Either mistake tends to show up as a slow weep weeks after the install rather than on the day you finish, which is the worst way to discover a parts error.
Working Around Gasoline Without Getting Hurt
This is the part of the job that deserves real respect rather than a passing mention. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks to floor level and spreads along the concrete until it finds something hot or sparking. A water heater pilot on the far wall is close enough to matter. Work outdoors, or immediately inside a fully open overhead door where vapor can escape rather than accumulate.
Before you open anything, shut off pilot lights and space heaters, unplug battery chargers and trickle chargers, and move any running electric motor out of the area. Keep a dry chemical extinguisher within arm's reach. Any fuel you drain goes into a sealed, fuel-rated container immediately, not an open pan left sitting on the bench while you work.
The Injection System on This KingQuad
The AXi designation tells you this 722cc single runs electronic fuel injection. There is no fuel valve under the tank, no gravity feed, and no float bowl. An electric pump sits submerged in the tank and holds the supply hose at regulated pressure whenever the key is on, and that pressure does not disappear the instant you shut the engine off. Relieving it electrically is the first move of the removal procedure.
The filter arrangement follows suit. On this platform the element is part of the in-tank pump module instead of an inline canister you can reach with the plastics off. Replacing the hose addresses cracking, hardening, and seepage. It will not resolve a restricted filter, so if fuel delivery is still poor after a clean and leak-free installation, that module is your next avenue.
Why the Line Deteriorates and What It Looks Like
Rubber fuel hose stays flexible thanks to plasticizer compounds that heat slowly drives out of the material. After more than a decade of warm-up and cool-down cycles, the wall has gone stiff and slightly glassy, and a stiff hose can no longer move with a chassis that flexes across rough ground. Hairline splits form at the bends and deepen with use. Arid storage climates accelerate the hardening by drawing residual moisture out of the rubber, while ethanol in E10 pump gas attacks the inner liner from the other side after absorbing atmospheric water during a long idle period.
Symptoms follow predictably. Expect a gasoline odor around the seat that lingers after shutdown, a damp stain or small puddle under the frame overnight, visible crazing or chalky discoloration, a length that will not compress under a firm pinch, and an engine that bogs under load or stumbles as though starved. Pressurized fuel escaping a pinhole often atomizes and evaporates without ever dripping, so a strong smell over a dry floor is still a leak worth chasing down.
Removing the Old Hose
Start by relieving pressure. Pull the fuel pump fuse or unplug the relay, crank the starter until the engine sputters out on the fuel left in the rail, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Lift the seat and remove the front fender sections and side panels obstructing the tank outlet and the hose run toward the throttle body.
Slide your pan into place and drape a rag over the first fitting you plan to open, because a depressurized hose still holds fuel that will spill when it parts. Move any clamp well back along the hose before disturbing the joint. On a quick-connect coupler, depress both locking tabs squarely and pull straight off in line with the fitting; levering at an angle cracks plastic collars that have stiffened over the years. Twist a reluctant hose end gently on its barb to break the varnish bond, and if it refuses to release, slit it lengthwise with the razor and peel it away rather than risking the fitting.
Record the routing before the hose is fully out. Four-wheel-drive brings a front differential and additional frame structure, and the power steering hardware shares that forward space, so the line follows a slightly longer path with more clearance points than a two-wheel-drive quad would need. Photograph each clip and guide.
Installation, Then a Proper Leak Test
Cut the new hose to the original length using the old one as a template. Extra length is not insurance; it becomes a chafe point against a frame tube or sags toward hot exhaust. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms against the shoulder, and assemble dry throughout. Grease, oil, and silicone spray belong nowhere near a fuel fitting, since lubricant on a sealing surface gives pressurized gasoline a route out from under the clamp. Thirty seconds in hot water softens a tight hose end enough to slide it on.
Position fresh clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly, snug without cutting into the rubber. Where the tank end uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until it clicks and then pull hard to confirm the latch caught; that fitting takes no clamp at all. Reinstall the hose into every original retainer so it holds position away from the front driveline and hot engine surfaces.
Finish with a genuine pressure test. Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off five or six times without cranking so the pump brings the line to full pressure while everything around it is still clean and dry. Inspect both joints, wipe them down, and check again by fingertip, which catches seepage that the eye misses. Start the 2011 KingQuad 750AXi Power Steering, watch the connections at idle, then rev lightly and look a third time. After several dry minutes, reinstall the plastics, take a slow lap of the yard, and inspect both fittings one final time.
