Big utility quads earn their keep in mud, water, and heat, and the 2011 Brute Force 750 4x4i sees more of all three than most. Its fuel hose absorbs that abuse silently until the day it splits or starts weeping, which is why replacing it on your schedule instead of the machine's is always the better trade.
A Pressurized Circuit, Not a Gravity Feed
Fuel injection sets the ground rules for this job. An electric pump sits inside the tank on this Brute Force and pushes fuel to the throttle bodies through a line that stays under pressure even after the key comes out. There is no petcock to close, so the isolation step is electrical instead of mechanical.
Remove the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine for a few seconds until it stumbles and dies, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. That sequence removes both the pressure and the possibility of the pump running while a fitting is open. With no shutoff valve on the machine, a pair of line–clamping pliers does the job a petcock would, pinching a soft section closed so the tank does not siphon out while you work.
How Fuel Hose Deteriorates Over a Decade
Two independent processes wear out a fuel line. The softening compounds that give the rubber its flexibility slowly migrate out of the material, leaving a wall that is stiff and slightly shrunken and can no longer conform tightly to a fitting. What to Gather Before You Begin

Plain low pressure carburetor hose is not an acceptable substitute on a pump fed system.
Handle ventilation as seriously as any part of the procedure. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor level, which is exactly where you will be lying while you reach the tank fittings. Work outside or with the overhead door fully raised so the air moves near the ground, keep chargers and hot lamps clear of the area, and shut off any appliance running a pilot flame in the building.
Removal, Step by Step
With pressure relieved and the battery disconnected, take off the seat and the panels covering the tank and the hose run. Position the drain pan and keep a rag over each fitting as you separate it, because a bled down line still holds fuel that will pour out when the joint opens.
Slide any clamp well back along the hose before touching the fitting itself, then twist the hose to shear the varnish bond that has formed over the years rather than pulling hard on it. Quick–connect couplers need their locking tabs compressed evenly and the fitting drawn straight off; levering at an angle cracks collars that have grown brittle. If a hose end has bonded permanently to a barb, slit it lengthwise and peel it off in strips. This being a 4x4 with independent rear suspension, note every clip and every clearance point around the front differential hardware before the old line is out of the frame.
Seating and Securing Fresh Hose
Cut the new hose to the same length as the original. Extra length is a liability on a chassis this crowded, because the hose will find either the driveline or a hot exhaust surface. Clean both fittings of varnish and grit, then work each hose end on until it bottoms fully against the shoulder.
Do it dry. Grease, oil, silicone, and any other lubricant must stay off a fuel fitting, because a slick sealing surface hands pressurized fuel a route to creep out from beneath the clamp. Softening a stiff hose end in hot water is the correct way to make it cooperate. Set the new clamps just behind the raised bead on each barb and tighten evenly to firm without crushing the rubber. Where a self–locking quick–connect is used, push until the collar clicks and tug to verify the latch, adding no clamp of any kind. Return the hose to all of its factory clips before you finish.
Leak Testing and the Filter Question
Reinstall the pump fuse or relay, Reconnect the battery, and turn the key on and off several times without starting. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the line, letting you inspect both joints while the engine is quiet and everything is dry. Check with your eyes and then with a fingertip, because a slow seep registers by feel before it becomes visible. Fire the engine, let it idle up to temperature, and go over both connections a third time with a clean rag while heat and vibration are working on them.
Reinstall the bodywork only when nothing shows. Then ride a short loop and inspect once more.
