Diagnosing and Replacing the Fuel Line on a 2010 Grizzly 700 EPS

Most fuel hose problems announce themselves twice: once quietly, in a smell or a damp spot you almost ignore, and once loudly, when the machine quits somewhere inconvenient. Catching the first announcement on your 2010 Grizzly 700 EPS is easy if you know what to look for, and replacing the hose on this injected 4x4 is well within reach at home.
The Quiet Announcement
Symptoms cluster into three groups. First, what you smell: a sharp gasoline odor around the middle of the quad, usually strongest in the first few minutes after you shut the key off while the circuit still holds pressure. Second, what you see: a wet patch or puddle on the skid plate or the floor after the machine has been sitting, fine cracks and crazing on the hose surface, a chalky white bloom where the compound has dried out, and a caked ring of dirt at a fitting where fuel has weeped and evaporated over and over. Third, what you feel through the throttle: bogging partway up a climb, hesitation as you roll on, or a lean surge that behaves exactly like a nearly empty tank.
Add one hands on test. Pinch the hose between gloved fingers. Healthy rubber compresses softly and springs back; a hose at the end of its life feels hard and glassy and barely moves. And because this Grizzly is injected, keep in mind that a pinhole on the pressure side can atomize fuel into vapor that evaporates before it reaches the ground, so a persistent smell over a dry floor is genuine evidence rather than a false alarm.
What Went Wrong Inside the Rubber
Heat is responsible for half of it. The plasticizers that keep fuel hose flexible cook out of the wall over hundreds of warmup and cooldown cycles, and once they are gone the hose can no longer flex with a chassis that works constantly over rough terrain. Cracks start at bends and at the shoulders where clamps grip. Dry, arid air accelerates the process by pulling remaining moisture out of the hose from the outside, which is why identical hose lasts longer in humid country.
Ethanol blended pump gas is responsible for the other half. Alcohol attracts atmospheric moisture and slowly attacks the inner liner, leaving gum and softened material that can shed downstream. That degradation concentrates during long idle stretches when fuel stands motionless in the line rather than flowing, which is why a Grizzly parked for a season with a partial tank ages its plumbing without adding a mile.
Verifying the Fuel System Before You Order
The 2010 Grizzly 700 EPS uses electronic fuel injection. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes the hose and feeds the throttle body, so nothing is gravity fed and there is no petcock beneath the tank to close. Buy hose rated for injection pressure in the original inside diameter; the soft low pressure hose intended for carburetor feed is not built for this duty. Plan on bleeding the pressure before you open a fitting, and use line clamping pliers as the substitute for the shutoff valve this machine does not carry.
Filtration is also inside the tank on this platform, integrated with the pump instead of hanging inline where you could reach it. That is a useful boundary when you are chasing a delivery problem: new hose cures hose faults, and a restricted in-tank filter is a separate job.
Setting Up the Work Area
Stage the hose, new clamps sized to fit, a quick connect release tool if the pump plate uses a locking coupler, line clamping pliers, nitrile gloves, eye protection, a sealed fuel container, a drain pan, a generous supply of rags, sockets, a screwdriver, and a sharp utility knife.
Then get the ventilation right, because it is the one part of this job with real consequences. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks and creeps along the floor rather than leaving through a window above your head. A closed garage that also houses a water heater, furnace, or shop heater is the wrong place to open a pressurized fuel line. Work outdoors when weather allows, or with the overhead door fully raised and a fan pushing air across the floor to sweep vapor out at ground level. Shut off every pilot light and heating element, keep an extinguisher within reach, and take fuel soaked rags outside rather than leaving them in a shop bin.
Detaching the Original Line
Depressurize first: pull the fuel pump fuse from the box under the seat, run the engine until it starves and stalls, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and side plastics so you can follow the hose from the pump plate all the way to the throttle body.
Position the drain pan and drape a rag over the joint before releasing it, since even a bled line holds a slug of fuel. Slide the clamps well clear of the barbs first. For a plastic quick connect, squeeze the release tabs squarely and pull the coupler straight off the nipple instead of levering it sideways, which cracks an aged collar. Hose that has varnished onto a barb should be rotated gently to break the bond, and if it will not release, slit it lengthwise and peel it away rather than prying on the fitting.
Trace the routing before the original is out. This machine combines four wheel drive with electric power steering, so front differential hardware and the steering assist unit both occupy space around the front of the frame that a plain 2WD chassis leaves open, and the hose is clipped to clear all of it. A couple of photographs now prevents a misrouted hose later.
Fitting the New Hose and Finishing Up
Cut the replacement to the exact length of the old one, because extra length sags onto a frame tube where it chafes or drifts toward the exhaust. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, working dry. Grease, oil, and silicone all stay off the sealing surfaces, since lubricant there gives pressurized fuel a channel to creep along and weep out. Soften a stubborn hose end in hot water for a few seconds instead.
Place new clamps just behind the raised bead at each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug enough to seal without deforming the hose. A self locking quick connect needs no clamp at all: press until the collar clicks, then pull firmly to confirm it latched. Route the hose back through every original clip so it hangs clear of the driveline, the steering hardware, and hot exhaust surfaces.
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the hose so you can inspect both joints while everything is still dry. Wipe the fittings with a clean rag, look and feel for any bead of fuel forming, then start the engine and check again at idle for several minutes before the bodywork goes back on.
