Fuel work rewards preparation more than speed. Gather the right hose and the right clamps for your 2010 Grizzly 700 before you loosen anything, and the whole replacement stays clean and uneventful. Improvise partway through with an open fitting in your hand and it becomes a mess. Here is how to set the job up properly and see it through on this fuel injected 4x4.

Assembling Your Kit First

Everything below should be on the bench before the seat comes off:

  • Replacement hose in the same inside diameter as the original and rated for fuel injection pressure, not general purpose carburetor hose
  • A set of fresh clamps in the correct size, since old clamps lose tension and old spring clips lose their grip
  • A quick connect release tool if your machine uses a locking coupler where the hose meets the pump plate
  • Line clamping pliers to pinch the hose closed, standing in for the fuel valve this model does not have
  • Nitrile gloves, eye protection, and a stack of shop rags
  • A sealed metal or fuel rated container plus a shallow drain pan
  • Sockets, a flat blade screwdriver, and a sharp utility knife

Gasoline Deserves Respect

This is the part riders skip and should not. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, which means it sinks and pools across the floor rather than drifting out an open window above your head. A closed garage with a water heater or shop heater in the corner is a genuinely dangerous place to open a fuel line. Work outdoors when weather allows, or roll the door all the way up and set a fan blowing across the floor to move vapor out at ground level. Kill every ignition source in the room, keep an extinguisher within reach, and dispose of fuel soaked rags outside rather than tossing them in a shop bin.

What the Grizzly 700 Fuel System Looks Like

The 2010 Grizzly 700 is fuel injected, and that means the layout differs from the carbureted utility quads many riders learned on. There is no petcock to shut off, because fuel is pushed rather than dropped: an electric pump mounted inside the tank feeds the throttle body through a pressurized hose. That circuit holds residual pressure after shutdown, so bleeding it down is a mandatory first step rather than an optional one.

The filter follows the pump. On this platform the filtration element is part of the in-tank pump assembly instead of hanging inline where you can see and change it. New hose solves hose problems; if this Grizzly still acts fuel starved once the plumbing is fresh, the module in the tank is the next suspect.

Recognizing a Hose That Is Finished

Age is the primary killer. Plasticizers bake out of the hose wall across years of heat cycles, leaving material that is stiff and prone to splitting at bends and clamp points. Dry, low humidity air accelerates that hardening from the outside, while ethanol blended fuel sitting in the line over a long idle stretch pulls in moisture and eats at the inner liner. On the machine itself, watch for a fuel puddle under the skid plate, a strong gas smell around the center of the quad after shutdown, visible cracking or a chalky bloom on the hose, a dust caked ring at either fitting, and an engine that bogs, hesitates, or surges lean under throttle. Injected machines can leak on the pressure side without ever dripping, since the fuel vaporizes, so treat a persistent smell as evidence even when the floor stays dry.

Taking the Old Line Off Cleanly

Relieve pressure to begin. Pull the fuel pump fuse from the box beneath the seat, let the engine run until it stalls out, switch the key off, then disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and the side plastics to expose the tank and follow the hose along its full run to the throttle body.

Slide the drain pan under the joint and lay a rag over it before you open it, because a depressurized hose still holds fuel. Walk the clamps down the hose and away from the fittings first. For a plastic quick connect, compress the release tabs squarely and pull straight back — a sideways pry will snap a collar that has been aging for well over a decade. Hose that has varnished itself to a barb should be twisted gently to break the bond, and if it stays put, slice it lengthwise and peel it off instead of levering on the fitting.

Trace the routing before it is gone. On this 4x4 the hose passes near front differential hardware and extra frame structure that a two wheel drive quad does not have, so photograph the clips and clearance points while the original is still in position.

Installing the New Hose and Checking Your Work

Cut the replacement to match the old hose length precisely. Extra length is not harmless: it lets the hose sag onto a crossmember to chafe or drift toward the exhaust. Push each end onto its barb until it bottoms out, dry. Nothing goes on the fittings first — grease, oil, and silicone all create a channel that pressurized fuel will exploit. Soften a stubborn hose end in hot water instead.

Position new clamps just behind the raised bead at each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug rather than crushing. Self locking quick connects take no clamp; press until the collar clicks, then tug to confirm the latch engaged. Feed the hose back through every original clip so it hangs clear of the front driveline and hot surfaces.

Restore the fuse and battery, then cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle pressurizes the circuit and lets you study both connections while everything is still dry. Wipe the fittings, look closely for any bead forming, then start the engine and inspect again at idle. Once you have several minutes of dry, leak free running, reinstall the bodywork and go ride.
