Getting to the Hose
Remove the seat first, then the panel that covers the tank, so the valve outlet and the carburetor inlet are both in reach at the same time. Being a two wheel drive machine, this Grizzly has no front differential or front driveshaft occupying frame space beneath the tank, so the hose takes a short and direct path with only a clip or two holding it against the chassis. Note where each clip grips and which side of any frame member the hose passes, and take a photograph before anything moves. Getting the replacement back on that original path is what keeps it from resting against something hot or something that moves.
Identifying the Fuel Delivery
The Grizzly 125 is carbureted, and that governs every step. A manual valve on the tank controls the supply, and fuel flows to the carburetor inlet by gravity with no pump in the circuit. Nothing is pressurized, which means no pump fuse or relay to remove and no residual pressure to relieve before you open a fitting. The connections are ordinary barbs held by clamps, not the self locking quick connect couplers found on fuel injected quads, and the carburetor has a float bowl drain screw for emptying it beforehand. Because closing the valve genuinely halts flow, line clamping pliers have no role here.

Gasoline vapor is heavier than the air around it, so it sinks and travels along the floor rather than rising and dispersing, which places it exactly at the level of a water heater burner or a shop heater intake. Work outdoors or with the overhead door open all the way, shut down every pilot light and spark source in the space, and let the engine and exhaust cool completely before you begin. Wear the gloves, because gasoline pulls the natural oils out of skin in a hurry.
Why Fuel Hose Deteriorates
Rubber fuel line owes its flexibility to plasticizers blended into the compound, and those slowly migrate out of the material with age. Heat cycling from the engine speeds the loss along, and the hose progresses from soft and springy to firm to hard and glassy. Once it is in that condition, the ordinary flexing that comes with riding uneven ground no longer bends the material harmlessly; it opens cracks and drives them deeper.
Dry climates hasten the process, since low humidity air continually draws moisture out of the hose wall and hardens it from the outer surface inward. Machines kept in arid country show crazed, chalky hose well before those in humid regions. Ethanol blended pump fuel does its damage from the inside, attracting moisture and gradually breaking down the inner liner, so a Grizzly left sitting with E10 in the system can be gummed and softened internally while stiffening on the outside.
Symptoms and Removal
Signs pointing to this repair include a fuel puddle or damp patch under the parked machine, a gasoline smell lingering in the shed with nothing running, visible cracking or a chalky film on the hose, a hardened feel when you pinch it, dried residue rings at either fitting, and an engine that bogs under load or runs lean like the tank is nearly empty. On a gravity fed 125 that last symptom is telling, since a collapsed or gummed hose keeps the float bowl full at idle and only falls behind when the engine asks for volume on a climb.
To remove it, turn the valve to off, then drain the carburetor float bowl by aiming the overflow tube into your pan and loosening the drain screw underneath, letting it empty completely. Slide both clamps well back from their barbs. Twist each hose end to break the varnish bond that has effectively cemented rubber to metal over the years, then work it off with steady pressure instead of a hard yank. If an end refuses to release, slit the hose lengthwise with your blade and peel it off in two halves rather than prying on the fitting.
Installation, Leak Check, and Final Details
Cut the new hose to match the length of the old one. Extra slack is not insurance; a sagging hose finds a bracket to rub against and wears through from the outside. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms against the shoulder, and do it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone spray on a fuel fitting undermine the interference seal that keeps fuel contained and let the hose creep off under vibration, so keep every lubricant away from the barbs. Stiff new hose softens plenty after thirty seconds in hot water.
Set each clamp just behind the raised bead so it physically cannot walk off the hose end, and tighten evenly — firm enough to seal without cutting into the wall. Guide the hose back through its original clips on a smooth curve, well clear of exhaust heat and the arc of the steering.
Now verify. Turn the valve on and watch both joints for a full minute without touching them, then press a clean dry rag around each connection and check it closely for staining or the smell of fuel. A clean rag means both ends are sealing. Start the engine and inspect once more at idle, because vibration exposes a marginal joint that held perfectly while everything sat still. Give it several minutes of leak free running before the bodywork goes back on.
One last item while you have access: if there is an inline filter in the run, replace it now. Fresh hose upstream of a filter loaded with varnish and sediment still delivers a fuel starved engine, and on a machine of this age the two parts typically wear out together.
