This job goes smoothly or badly depending almost entirely on what you have laid out before the first fitting comes apart. A 2010 KingQuad 750AXi runs fuel injection, which means an open fitting is not something you want to hold while walking across the shop looking for a rag or the right clamp.

Build the Kit First

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves and safety glasses, since a fitting can spit as it first releases
  • A wide drain pan plus a sealed container rated for gasoline
  • Replacement hose rated for injection pressure in the original inside diameter, not general purpose carburetor line
  • New clamps in the style fitted to the machine, and a quick-connect release tool if the pump flange carries a locking coupler
  • Line-clamping pliers, which fill the role the missing petcock would have played
  • A socket set for the seat and side panels, a razor knife, a small flat blade, and a stack of rags

Buy the hose before you start taking things apart so you can hold it against the removed piece and verify inside diameter. A hose that is close but not correct will weep at a barb regardless of how firmly you set the clamp.

Confirming the 750AXi Setup

AXi marks Suzuki's electronic fuel injection, and on this 722cc single an electric pump module drops into the top of the tank with the strainer and filter element built in. Nothing along the visible hose can be unbolted or cleaned, and there is no petcock anywhere on the machine to shut off flow. The line carries pressurized fuel from that module up to the throttle body and stays pressurized after shutdown until you bleed it deliberately. Being a 4x4, this KingQuad routes the hose past front driveline hardware and extra frame structure, so working room is tighter than on a two-wheel-drive quad. Trace the run and count the clips before anything moves.

Why the Hose Eventually Lets Go

Fuel hose fails on a calendar, not an hour meter. Heat from the engine gradually drives the plasticizers out of the wall, and once the rubber loses flexibility, ordinary vibration and chassis flex craze the surface and drive cracks toward the bore. That hardening runs faster in dry, low-humidity regions because the surrounding air constantly pulls moisture from the outer jacket. On the bore side, ethanol-blended fuel absorbs water and slowly attacks the inner liner, and the damage compounds on a quad that sits through an off-season with gas in it. The result is stiff and cracked outside, softening and shedding inside.

Symptoms Before a Failure

Several clues turn up well ahead of an outright leak. The most common is a gasoline smell around the tank and seat that lingers after shutdown, followed by a damp patch or slow drip on the skid plate. Run your fingers down the hose and feel for fine cracking, a chalky surface, or a rigid section, and check both fittings for a ring of caked grime that betrays a slow seep. On the ride, watch for bogging under load, hesitation off idle, or a lean surge that gets worse as fuel level drops. Because this is an injected machine, a pressure-side pinhole can atomize fuel completely, so you may get the smell with no puddle at all.

Ventilation and Fuel Handling

State this part plainly instead of glossing over it. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it does not exit through a window at head height; it spreads along the floor, exactly where a water heater pilot or shop heater draws its combustion air. Roll the quad outside if the weather cooperates. If you are stuck indoors, open the overhead door completely so air actually circulates at ground level, shut down every flame and heating element in the building, and keep a fire extinguisher within arm's reach. Wear the gloves from the first fitting onward, and disconnect the battery negative as soon as pressure is relieved.

Pressure Relief and Removal

Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank the starter in short bursts until the engine stalls and refuses to fire. Turn the key off and disconnect the battery. Remove the seat and the plastics shrouding the tank so both hose ends are reachable, slide the pan underneath, and drape a rag over the first joint you open, because a bled line still holds fuel.

Back each clamp well away from its fitting before you pull. Spring clamps release with a squeeze of the tabs; worm-gear clamps simply loosen and slide. A plastic quick-connect at the pump outlet releases when you press its tabs evenly and pull straight back, and it needs to stay square, since collars that have aged for years crack when levered sideways. Hose that has varnished onto a barb should be twisted a quarter turn to break the bond, or split lengthwise with a razor and peeled off, which protects the throttle body spigot from strain. Photograph the routing and each clearance point near the front differential before the hose is fully clear.

Installation and the Leak Test

Trim the new hose to the original length. Extra slack lets the line sag into the front driveline or rub a frame edge until it chafes through. Seat both ends fully onto their barbs, dry, with no grease, oil, or silicone touching the sealing surfaces — lubricant creates precisely the leak path you are trying to eliminate. Hot water for a few seconds is the right way to soften an end that resists.

Install fresh clamps just behind the raised bead on each spigot and tighten evenly, snug enough to seal without biting into the wall. A self-locking coupler on the tank side wants no clamp; push until it clicks, then tug firmly to verify the latch. Restore the hose into every factory clip so it clears exhaust heat and rotating parts.

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off four or five times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit, letting you study both joints while everything is dry. Wipe them and watch for the faintest bead of fuel. Then start it, let it idle, blip the throttle, and check one final time with a clean rag. Several minutes of dry running before the bodywork returns is worth the wait. If delivery still feels weak after a leak-free install, the filter and strainer inside the tank module is the next component to investigate.
