Buying the right hose is the single most important decision in this repair. A 2010 Rincon 680 runs a pressurized fuel system, and generic tubing from a hardware bin will not survive against it for long. Get the part selection right, stage your tools, and the physical work of swapping the line takes very little time.

Choosing the Hose and Clamps

You need hose specifically rated for fuel injection pressure, in the same inside diameter as the piece you remove. Low pressure carburetor line has a thinner wall and a different construction, and on a pressurized circuit it can balloon or blow off a barb. Measure the old hose rather than guessing at the size, and buy it a few inches long so you can trim to an exact fit. For clamps, match what the machine already uses: spring clips grip evenly and are hard to overtighten, while small worm gear clamps are easier to reposition. Buy new ones either way, since old clamps lose tension and old spring clips can crack. Here is the rest of the list:

How Fuel Reaches the Engine on This Rincon

The 2010 Rincon 680 is fuel injected rather than carbureted. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes fuel and sends it to the throttle body, where the injector meters it. That means no manual fuel valve to close, no float bowl to drain, and pressure lingering in the line after the engine stops. The fuel filter is built into the in tank pump assembly rather than living inline on the visible hose, which is worth filing away for later if delivery symptoms persist after this repair.

This is a 4x4 chassis with independent rear suspension, so the frame is crowded. A front differential and driveshaft occupy the forward section and the hose is clipped along a route that keeps it away from that hardware and from hot exhaust surfaces. Reproducing the original path is part of the job, not an afterthought.

Why the Old Hose Gave Up

Rubber fuel line ages out. Plasticizers that keep it flexible slowly migrate from the compound, and the hose progresses from soft to stiff to genuinely brittle. Engine heat cycles, sunlight, and ozone all speed the change. In dry regions it happens sooner, since low ambient humidity pulls moisture out of the hose wall and leaves a glazed surface that cracks the moment it flexes.

Ethanol blended fuel works from the inside out. Alcohol in pump gas draws in atmospheric moisture, and fuel left standing over a long layup degrades the inner liner while gum and varnish collect at the barbs. The result is a hose hardening outside and softening inside at the same time, capable of shedding fine debris toward an injector with a very small opening. That combination is why age matters more than appearance on any hose this old.

Symptoms That Justify the Repair

  • A gasoline smell near the tank and seat, strongest right after shutdown while the system holds pressure
  • Fuel puddling under the frame or a wet, discolored stain on the skid plate
  • Cracks, a chalky finish, or a hose section that feels rigid instead of springy
  • Bogging on acceleration, stumbling under load, or a stall that mimics an empty tank
  • A dirt encrusted ring at a fitting where seeping fuel has dried in place

Keep in mind that a pressurized leak can atomize and evaporate before it hits the ground, so a strong odor with nothing visible below is still worth chasing down.

Bleeding Off Pressure and Pulling the Hose

Relieve the fuel pressure before you open anything. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the starter briefly until the engine stalls or will not catch, turn the key off, then disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and the plastic panels around the tank to expose both ends of the hose. Position the drain pan and put a rag over the first joint you separate, since a relieved line still holds fuel that will spill.

Slide any clamp well back along the hose before disturbing the fitting. For a quick connect, squeeze the locking tabs squarely and pull straight off with no side load, because plastic collars grow brittle with age and snap. Break the varnish bond at each barb with a gentle twist rather than a hard pull, and if the hose has bonded on, slit it lengthwise and peel it clear instead of prying on the throttle body or pump module. Before the old hose is fully free, photograph every clip and note the clearance it maintained around the front driveline.

Fitting the New Line and Testing It

Cut the replacement to the length of the original. Extra length chafes on frame tubes or kinks in a tight bend; a short piece keeps tension on both fittings. Work each end onto its barb dry until it bottoms against the shoulder, dipping stubborn rubber in hot water for a few seconds to soften it. Do not put grease, oil, or silicone on a fuel fitting under any circumstances — lubricant on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a route past the seal and lets the hose creep off the barb over time. Set new clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly. If a self locking quick connect is used, push until it clicks and then pull firmly to verify the latch has caught; no clamp belongs there.

Put the hose back into its clips, reinstall the pump fuse, and Reconnect the battery. Cycle the key on and off several times without starting the engine so the pump pressurizes the circuit and you can inspect dry fittings under real pressure. Wipe both joints with a clean rag and check them again, then start the engine and look a third time at idle while it vibrates. A short slow lap followed by one more inspection is the confirmation you want before the bodywork goes back on. If fuel delivery still feels off with no leaks present, the in tank filter and pump module deserves attention next.
