Getting a fuel hose off a 2009 Grizzly 125 is the easy part. Getting the new one on so it seals reliably and stays sealed for years is where the job is actually won or lost, and it comes down to three details: the right length, a completely dry fitting, and a clamp in the right position.
What a Correct Installation Looks Like
Cut the replacement to match the old hose exactly. Riders often leave a few extra inches thinking it adds flexibility, but slack does the opposite — a sagging hose settles against a bracket or a frame edge and wears through from the outside, which is the same failure you are trying to prevent. Push each end fully onto its barb until the rubber bottoms out against the shoulder of the fitting. A hose pushed on halfway will hold at first and let go later.
Assemble it completely dry. No grease, no oil, no silicone spray, no petroleum jelly anywhere on the barbs. The seal on a barbed fuel fitting comes from the rubber gripping the metal under interference, and any lubricant gives fuel a path to creep past while simultaneously letting the hose walk off the fitting under vibration. If the new hose is too stiff to slide on, dip the end in hot water for half a minute and it will go on without help.
Position each clamp just behind the raised bead on the fitting so it physically cannot slide off the hose end, and tighten evenly. You want it firm enough to seal, not so tight that it cuts a groove into the wall. Then route the finished hose back through its original clips on a smooth curve, well away from exhaust heat and clear of anything that sweeps with the steering.
The Fuel System Behind Those Steps
The Grizzly 125 is carbureted, which is why barbs and clamps are what you are dealing with rather than pressurized couplers. Fuel leaves the tank through a manual valve and reaches the carburetor inlet by gravity with no pump in the circuit, so nothing is pressurized, there is no pump fuse or relay to pull, and you will not find a self locking quick connect fitting of the kind used on fuel injected machines. The carburetor also gives you a float bowl drain screw for emptying it before the job. Turning the valve off truly stops the flow, so line clamping pliers are unnecessary.
As a two wheel drive machine, this Grizzly has no front differential or front driveshaft taking up room under the tank. The hose run is short and stays mostly visible once the seat and cover panel are off.

- A shallow drain pan and a sealed container approved for gasoline
- Flat blade screwdriver, small sockets, a sharp utility blade, and rags
Gasoline vapor is denser than air, so it sinks and creeps along the floor instead of rising away. That puts it right at the height of a water heater burner or a shop heater air intake, which is why floor level ventilation matters more than an open window overhead. Work outdoors or with the door fully open, kill every pilot light and spark source in the space, and let the engine and exhaust cool before you handle fuel. Wear gloves, since gasoline strips the oils from skin fast.
Why the Original Hose Needed Replacing
Fuel line stays flexible because of plasticizers in the rubber compound, and those slowly migrate out over the years while engine heat cycles hurry the process along. The hose stiffens progressively until it feels hard and glassy, and once it reaches that state the routine flexing of a worKing Quad opens cracks in the wall rather than bending it harmlessly.
Dry climates accelerate the decline, since low humidity air pulls moisture out of the hose and hardens it from the outside inward, producing the chalky crazed look common on machines kept in arid regions. Ethanol blended fuel attacks from the inner side, drawing in moisture and gradually degrading the liner, so a Grizzly that sits unridden with E10 in the system can be gummed and softened internally while the exterior turns brittle.
Symptoms and Getting the Old Hose Out
Signs that bring you to this repair include a fuel puddle or damp patch under the parked quad, a gasoline smell hanging in the storage area, visible cracking or a hardened feel in the hose, dried residue rings at a fitting, and an engine that bogs under load or runs lean as though the tank were nearly empty. On a gravity fed machine, restricted flow shows up under load well before it touches idle.
To remove the old line, close the fuel valve, then take off the seat and the tank cover so both ends are reachable at once. Photograph the routing and clip positions first. Drain the carburetor float bowl by directing the overflow tube into your pan and loosening the drain screw underneath. Slide both clamps clear of their barbs, twist each hose end to break the varnish bond that has effectively cemented rubber to metal, and ease it off with steady pressure. If an end will not release, slit the hose lengthwise with your blade and peel it off in halves rather than prying on the fitting.
Proving the Repair Before You Ride
Turn the valve to on and watch both joints for a full minute without touching anything. Then wipe each connection with a clean dry rag and study it in good light for staining or the smell of fuel. Start the engine and inspect a second time at idle, because vibration will reveal a joint that sealed perfectly while the machine sat still.
While access is open, replace any inline filter in the run. A fresh hose feeding a filter packed with varnish and sediment still delivers a starved engine, and the two components typically reach the end of their useful life together. Once the floor stays dry and the idle holds steady, reinstall the cover and seat on the 2009 Grizzly and put it back to work.
