Setting Up Safely

On a quick-connect, compress the locking tabs squarely and draw the coupler straight off – prying sideways splits collars that have gone brittle with age. At barbed fittings, twist the hose gently to break the varnish bond rather than pulling hard, and slit an immovable hose lengthwise with a blade. Take photographs of the routing before the line is fully out.
Fitting the Replacement

Trim the new hose to match the old length precisely, since surplus hose eventually leans on a frame edge or wanders toward exhaust heat. Push each end fully onto its barb until it stops, and do it dry. No grease, no oil, no silicone anywhere near the fittings, because lubricant on a sealing surface is exactly how pressurized fuel finds its way out. A few seconds in hot water softens a stiff hose end enough to slide on unaided. Set new clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly rather than crushing one side of the hose. If the tank fitting is a self-locking quick-connect, push until the collar clicks and confirm by tugging; that joint needs no clamp.
Testing and Wrapping Up
Refit the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without cranking so the pump pressurizes the line while everything is still accessible. Wipe both connections with a clean rag and study them for any bead of fuel. Start the engine and inspect again at idle, then take a final look once the hose has warmed and expanded.
