Machines from the 2007 model year have now spent enough time in the sun that original fuel hose is well past its useful life, whether or not it has failed yet. The Grizzly 350 2x4 is an easy candidate for preventive replacement: the fuel system is simple, the parts are inexpensive, and the consequences of ignoring it range from a rough-running engine to raw fuel on the floor of your shop.
The Signs That Send Riders Under the Fenders
Most owners come to this repair because something already got their attention. The usual list:
- A fuel puddle or wet spot under the quad that was not there when you parked it
- Gasoline odor strong enough to notice as soon as you walk into the garage
- Hairline cracking or a dry, chalky texture on the hose, worst at the bends
- Bogging when you get into the throttle, or a lean stumble that feels like the tank is running dry
- A dark, dust-caked ring at a fitting where fuel has seeped and dried repeatedly
The running problems catch people off guard because the line looks intact. A hose that has swelled internally or partially collapsed still passes enough fuel to idle, then starves the carburetor the moment the engine asks for volume on a climb or under load.
How This Machine Delivers Fuel
The 2007 Grizzly 350 is carbureted. A manual fuel valve sits at the tank, gravity moves fuel through a single rubber line, and the carburetor float bowl below has a drain screw for exactly this kind of work. Nothing in the system is pressurized, so there is no pump fuse to pull and no residual pressure to bleed before you loosen a clamp. That is a meaningful difference from later fuel-injected utility quads, where the first step is always relieving pressure and where a plastic quick-connect coupler may replace the humble hose clamp entirely.
Being a two-wheel-drive model, this 350 has an open path beneath the tank. The four-wheel-drive variants of the same era route their line past front differential hardware and pick up additional clearance points, which is worth remembering if you have worked on one and expect the same layout here.
What Actually Breaks Down Inside the Hose
Fuel hose fails from two directions at once. On the outside, engine heat cycles slowly drive off the plasticizers that keep rubber supple. The hose stiffens, and once stiff, ordinary vibration turns surface crazing into real cracks. Dry, low-humidity air speeds the process by wicking moisture out of the hose wall, which is why machines that live in arid country tend to need line replacement sooner than their mileage suggests.
On the inside, ethanol-blended gasoline works on the liner. Alcohol attracts water and degrades the inner surface, softening it and shedding fine debris downstream toward the jets. Fuel left standing for months while the quad sits idle leaves gum and varnish behind as it evaporates, narrowing the passage and cementing the hose to its barbs. On a machine from 2007 running modern pump gas, both mechanisms have had plenty of time to do their work.
Shop Supplies and a Word About Gasoline Vapor
Have all of this ready before the first clamp moves:
- Fuel-rated replacement hose sized to the original inside diameter
- New clamps or spring clips — old clips have relaxed and will not hold reliably
- Nitrile gloves, eye protection, and more rags than you think you need
- A sealed, approved container for drained fuel and a shallow pan for drips
- Screwdrivers, pliers, sockets, and a sharp utility knife
Gasoline vapor is heavier than air. It flows downhill, gathers at floor level, and finds pilot lights, battery chargers, and electrical outlets near the ground. Work outside if you can, and if you cannot, open the door fully and shut off anything that cycles or sparks. Cap your fuel container the moment you are done pouring, and keep a dry chemical extinguisher where you can reach it without stepping over the quad.
Draining Down and Pulling the Line
Turn the fuel valve to OFF. Set your pan under the carburetor, open the float bowl drain screw, and let the bowl empty through its overflow tube, then close it back up. That single step removes most of the fuel that would otherwise run out onto your arm. Remove the seat and whatever side panel is in your way so you have clear access to both hose ends.
Work the clamp at the carburetor inlet well back along the hose. Twist the hose gently to break the varnish bond before you pull, and if the rubber has hardened onto the barb, slit it lengthwise with your knife and peel it off instead of levering against the fitting. Repeat at the valve end. With the hose out, inspect the valve screen for sediment while the access is good — on this carbureted 350 that screen is a serviceable filter, whereas injected machines locate their filter inside the tank as part of the pump assembly.
Seating the New Line Without Lubricant
Hold the old hose against the new stock, mark it, and cut square. Match the original length exactly rather than leaving slack; extra hose sags into the frame, chafes, or forms a high loop that can trap air in a gravity feed. Slide each end onto its barb until it bottoms out against the shoulder, and do this dry. Grease, oil, and silicone spray all defeat the seal and encourage the hose to creep off the fitting under vibration, so keep every lubricant away from the fittings. Warm the hose ends in hot water if the new rubber resists.
Position the new clamps just behind the raised bead on each barb and tighten them evenly. Return the line to the same frame passage it came from, keeping the run sloping downward the entire way, and give both ends a firm tug to confirm they are locked in place.
Verifying the Repair
Open the fuel valve and stand there watching. Put a clean, dry rag under each connection for a full minute and check it for any trace of fuel. Start the engine, let it idle while the bowl fills and the machine warms, then examine both joints and the floor beneath the quad once more. Snap the throttle a few times to shake the system and take a final look. When everything reads dry, reinstall the bodywork, dispose of the old hose and drained fuel properly, and put the Grizzly 350 back to work.
