Here is how to spot a failing line on this Rancher and how to put a fresh one in properly.

Early Warnings You Should Not Ignore

Start with your nose. A persistent gasoline smell around the seat and tank area, especially in a closed garage, means fuel is escaping somewhere and evaporating before it can puddle. Next look underneath. A wet spot on the skid plate, a darkened stain on the frame rail, or a slow drip that appears only after the quad has sat for hours all point at a fitting that no longer seals.

Then check how the engine behaves. A hose that has hardened can crack at the barb and draw air, or collapse slightly under the demand of the carburetor. Either condition leans the mixture out, which shows up as bogging when you open the throttle, surging at a steady cruise, or a machine that acts like it is running out of gas with half a tank aboard. Finally, put your hands on the hose. Healthy fuel line feels soft and springy. If it feels like plastic tubing, has a chalky surface, or shows fine cracks when you flex it, its service life is over regardless of whether it is leaking yet.

What Kills a Fuel Line Over Time

Rubber hose loses its plasticizers gradually, and once those are gone the material cannot flex without fracturing. Heat cycling from the air cooled single speeds that up, and so does exposure to sun and ozone. Dry climates are especially hard on fuel hose, because low ambient humidity draws moisture out of the rubber and leaves it stiff and glazed well ahead of schedule.

Ethanol blended fuel attacks the same hose from the inside. Tools, Parts, and a Safe Workspace

Take the gasoline seriously. Vapor sinks and collects at floor level, so open the garage door and set a fan low to move air out rather than relying on a window. Shut off any appliance with a standing flame in the same space, keep the battery disconnected while you have fuel open, and never trust a partly full container left uncapped on a warm day.

Removing the Old Line

Turn the fuel valve off before you touch anything else. Pull the seat and any plastic panel that hides the tank outlet, and get clear sightlines to both fittings. Slide a pan under the carburetor, loosen the float bowl drain screw, and let the bowl empty so you are not fighting a gush of fuel later.

Walk each clamp back along the hose and away from the fitting. Break the seal by twisting the hose gently at the barb, then ease it off. Old hose often welds itself to the spigot with dried varnish, and the safe answer is to cut it lengthwise and peel it rather than prying against a valve body or a carburetor casting that will crack. As it comes loose, take a picture of the routing. Every clip, every pass around a frame tube, and every bit of clearance from the front driveline needs to be duplicated with the new hose.

Fitting the New Hose

Match the replacement to the length of the old piece exactly. A hose that is too long rubs on the frame and can kink; one that is too short holds tension on both barbs. Slide each end on dry until it seats fully against the shoulder. Resist any urge to lubricate the fittings — grease, oil, and silicone all create a leak path and let the hose walk off the barb over time. Warm water is the only assist you need if the rubber is stiff.

Place the clamps just behind the bead on each spigot so they cannot slide off, and snug them evenly. Overtightening a worm gear clamp will bite through the hose wall and start a leak of its own. Route the finished line back through the original clips and confirm it has clearance from the exhaust and from anything that turns.

Leak Check Before the First Ride

Close the float bowl drain screw, then open the fuel valve and stop. Gravity puts fuel against both fittings immediately, so wait a full minute and inspect. Dry both ends with a clean rag and look once more, since a fresh wipe makes a tiny weep obvious. Fire the engine, let it idle several minutes, and check again with the machine shaking. Ride a short loop, shut down, and give both connections a last inspection before reinstalling the seat and plastics. If a fuel delivery complaint remains after a clean install, the next place to look is the inline screen or filter, which a new hose does nothing to improve.
