Tools and Handling Gasoline Sensibly

Before the first fitting opens, have gloves, eye protection, an approved fuel container, replacement hose in the correct inside diameter, new clamps for each joint, a flat blade screwdriver, needle nose pliers, a socket set for the seat and panels, a utility blade, and rags all within reach. Extra hose length is cheap protection against a mismeasured cut.

Then take ventilation seriously, because it is the one real hazard here. Close the float bowl drain, open the fuel valve, and let gravity fill the circuit. Check both joints for beading, then hold a clean dry rag under each fitting for a full minute, since a rag finds seepage long before it becomes a drip. Start the engine, let it idle to operating temperature, and inspect again with the hose warm and vibrating, because that is when a marginal joint reveals itself. Reinstall the bodywork only after everything stays dry.
