Meanwhile ethanol-blended gasoline goes after the liner. Alcohol brings water along with it, and whenever the quad sits for weeks that water sits against the inner wall and degrades it, generating gum and soft particles that head for the filter and the carburetor jets. A gravity-fed system leaks whenever the valve is open, which makes the evidence easy to find. Look for a puddle or a damp patch beneath the machine after it has been parked, and a fuel smell that lingers with the engine cold. Those are the unmistakable signs.

A hose that has hardened or partially collapsed cannot pass as much fuel as gravity would otherwise supply, so the engine bogs partway up a hill, hesitates when you open the throttle under load, or feels like the tank is nearly dry when it is not. A crack that admits air rather than releasing fuel leans the mixture and produces a stumble at higher throttle openings. Both are worth checking the hose over before touching a jet.

Indoors, open the door fully, place a fan low to move air across the floor, shut down all flames, keep the fuel container closed except while pouring, and dry any soaked rags outdoors.
Getting the Old Line Out and the New One In
Turn the fuel valve off, remove the seat, and take off whatever bodywork blocks access. Slide the pan under the carburetor and open the float bowl drain screw so the bowl empties deliberately rather than down your forearm. Slide clamps back along the hose before you disturb any joint, using pliers for spring clamps and a screwdriver for worm-gear.
Expect fuel varnish to have glued the hose to its barbs. Twist gently to break the bond, and if it holds fast, cut the hose lengthwise and peel it away rather than pulling hard enough to bend the valve outlet or carburetor inlet. Before the old run is fully clear, photograph its path, including the clips and the clearance points around the front differential and frame crossmembers that a 4x4 chassis adds.
Cut the new hose to the length of the original. Longer invites chafing and sag toward hot components, shorter leaves both fittings under permanent strain. Seat each end dry, pushing past the raised bead, and keep grease, oil, and silicone off the fittings entirely. A lubricated sealing surface gives fuel a route out from under even a properly tightened clamp. Hot water is the correct persuader for a stiff hose end. Fit the new filter with its arrow toward the carburetor, place fresh clamps just behind each bead, tighten evenly, and route the hose back through every factory clip.
The Leak Test That Decides Everything
Open the fuel valve and watch, doing nothing else, for a full minute. Gravity applies steady pressure to every joint, so a marginal connection will bead up while you stand there. Wipe both fittings and the filter connections with a clean rag and check again. Then start the engine, inspect at idle, ride a short slow loop, and give it a final look with the machine hot and everything at full expansion.
Only reinstall the bodywork after all three checks come back dry.
