Reading the Symptoms Correctly

Then consider how the engine behaves. Restricted flow starves the float bowl, producing bogging when you lug the machine up a grade, hesitation as you roll into the throttle, and a lean, flat feeling that mimics an almost empty tank. Riders often chase jetting or spark for weeks before discovering the real culprit was a hardened, varnish-choked hose.

If the hose is stiff, dip the end in hot water for a few seconds. Fit new clamps just behind the bead at both ends, tighten evenly without crushing the wall, and secure the line in its original guides.
Leak Check Before the First Ride
Close the drain screw and turn the petcock on. Gravity fills the hose right away, so a marginal joint will show a bead of fuel within a minute. Wipe both fittings with a clean rag, inspect them again dry, then start the engine and let it idle several minutes before a final look while everything is warm and vibrating.
