Setting Up the Bench and the Space

Leak Testing and the Rest of the Fuel Path
Snug the bowl drain screw, open the petcock, and watch both connections for a solid minute as the hose fills. Wipe the fittings dry with a clean rag and inspect again, since a new bead of fuel is easy to see against dry metal. Start the engine, let it idle several minutes, and give both joints a last look before the plastics go back on.
Take advantage of the open access while you have it. Confirm the petcock stops flow completely, make sure the fuel cap vent breathes so the tank does not draw a vacuum against your new hose, and inspect any inline filter for restriction.
