Before pulling a carburetor apart or chasing an ignition gremlin, spend five minutes with the fuel hose. It is the cheapest thing in the fuel path and the most likely thing on the machine to have aged out.

Assembling Tools and Preparing the Space

Have all of this ready before you open anything: gloves rated for fuel handling, an approved sealed container for drained gasoline, a shallow catch pan, gasoline-rated hose matched to the original inside diameter, a fresh set of correctly sized clamps, a flat-blade screwdriver, a small socket set, a sharp utility blade, and plenty of clean rags.

Ventilation deserves genuine attention here. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools at floor level, so an open window above the bench does nothing while an open door with air moving through does everything. Roll the quad outside if weather permits. Extinguish water heater pilots and shop heaters, put grinders away, disconnect the battery negative cable, and let a hot exhaust cool fully. Fuel-soaked rags go into a closed metal container outdoors.

Removing the Failed Line

Turn the petcock to OFF and let the engine idle until it stalls, which empties most of the float bowl. If your carburetor has a bowl drain screw, crack it over the pan and release the remainder. Slide the pan under the hose run and lay a rag beneath the first fitting you will open.

Move each clamp well back along the hose before you disturb the joint. Installing the New Hose

Push each end fully over its barb until it seats past the raised bead, working it on dry. Grease, oil, and silicone stay off fuel fittings completely, since lubricant on the sealing surface gives gasoline a path to creep out and can carry contamination downstream into the carburetor. Dip a stiff hose end in hot water for thirty seconds and it will slide on without a fight.

Set the clamps just behind the bead on each fitting and tighten evenly. Snug seals properly; an overtightened screw clamp bites into soft rubber and starts a leak of its own. Feed the hose back through its factory guides so it stays away from the cylinder head and the front drive components.

Confirming the Repair Holds

Open the petcock and watch both joints for a full minute before starting the engine. Gravity puts fuel at the fittings immediately, so a poor connection reveals itself right away. Wipe everything dry with a clean rag and inspect again, then start the engine and check at idle with good light, paying particular attention to the top side of each fitting where a slow weep likes to hide. Take a short low-speed lap and look once more after the engine has heat-cycled.

Finish by checking the petcock's internal screen and any small inline filter while access is easy.
