A Practical Parts and Tool List
Nothing exotic is required, but everything on this list earns its place:

- Nitrile or rubber gloves and safety glasses
- A drain pan and a sealed container approved for holding fuel

Gasoline handling deserves a real word here. The vapor is heavier than air and drifts downward, spreading across the floor toward any pilot light, space heater, or spark at ground level. Work outside if you can, or open the shop door completely and put a fan low, pushing air away from the quad. Shut down the water heater, skip the hot bulb work light, and keep an extinguisher close. Fuel soaked rags belong spread out in the open air, not stuffed in a closed can.
How Fuel Reaches the Carburetor on This Machine
The fuel valve under the tank has ON, OFF, and reserve positions, and a small strainer screen behind the outlet catches grit before it enters the hose. From there a single length of rubber drops to the carburetor inlet, clamped at both ends and supported along the way by a clip. Extracting the Original Line

Old hose fuses to brass with varnish, so break the bond with a gentle quarter turn at the barb, then pull straight off with steady pressure and a rag ready. A hose end that will not budge should be slit along its length with the utility knife and peeled off in two pieces, which keeps you from prying on a fitting that can crack. Free the valve end the same way, then note the clip locations and the exact path the hose followed before it is entirely out of the frame.
The Install, Step by Step
Cut the new hose to the length of the piece you removed. Extra hose loops down and finds something to chafe on, and a short piece tugs at both barbs whenever the engine rocks. Press each end fully onto its fitting until it stops against the shoulder, and do all of it dry. No grease, no oil, no silicone touches a fuel fitting, because lubricant on the barb is exactly what lets fuel creep out beneath the clamp. Warm a stiff hose end in hot water for a few seconds if it resists.
Position the clamps just behind the raised bead on each barb so they cannot slide off, then tighten evenly until the hose stops turning in your hand and stop there. Excess torque on a worm gear clamp cuts into the wall and creates the next leak. Route the finished line back through its original clip, keeping it clear of the exhaust and the engine cases.
Testing for Seepage
Turn the valve on and leave the engine off. Gravity fills the bowl over the next minute or so, and that quiet interval is when a weep is easiest to spot. Wipe both joints with a dry rag, wait, and look for fresh fuel. Once they stay clean, start the Big Bear and let it idle to full temperature, checking again while the engine shakes the chassis.
Ride a slow lap, shut down, and inspect one last time before the bodywork goes back on. While the area is open, rinse the strainer screen at the valve outlet and make sure the tank vent breathes. Both restrict flow the same way a collapsing hose does, and clearing them now keeps you from redoing work you just finished.
