This MotoSport guide walks you through a safe, effective brake fluid change and bleed for the 2025 Polaris Sportsman 570. Follow each step carefully. If you’re not confident with brake work, have a certified technician do the job.
What you need
- DOT 4 brake fluid (Polaris recommends DOT 4 for Sportsman 570; confirm cap marking)
- Clear plastic tubing that fits bleed nipples
- Catch bottle for old fluid
- Wrench for bleed nipples (usually 8mm or 10mm)
- Phillips or flat screwdriver for reservoir cap
- Syringe, turkey baster, or small fluid pump (for vacuum or reverse bleeding optional)
- Brake cleaner, rags, and gloves
- Plastic caps or plugs to keep dirt out of reservoir
Model notes for the 2025 Polaris Sportsman 570
- Reservoir location: master cylinder reservoir is mounted near the handlebar for front brakes and beside the rear master cylinder for rear brakes if separate; layouts can vary with trim.
- Brake circuit: many Sportsman 570 models use separate front and rear hydraulic circuits. Identify both systems before beginning.
- ABS & electronic aids: if your unit has optional ABS or electronic brake components, follow Polaris service steps for those systems — do not introduce air into ABS module without factory procedure.
- Fluid spec: use fresh DOT 4 only. Do not mix DOT 4 with DOT 5 silicone fluid.
- Bleed nipples: caliper bleed screws are protected with caps — remove these and inspect for corrosion before turning.
Safety first
- Work on a level surface with the engine off and key removed.
- Wear eye protection and gloves; brake fluid damages paint.
- Keep reservoir top clean & capped when not actively topping up to avoid contamination.
- Never let the reservoir run empty during bleeding; you will introduce air into the system.
Preparation
- Park the ATV on level ground and secure it on a stand so wheels can rotate freely (if needed).
- Clean around the brake fluid reservoir(s) and bleed nipples to prevent dirt entry.
- Remove the reservoir cap & diaphragm carefully. Use a clean rag to catch any overflow.
- Siphon or vacuum out as much old fluid from the reservoir as possible before adding fresh DOT 4.
- Fill reservoir to the full mark with fresh fluid and loosely replace cap so pressure won’t build while bleeding.
Bleeding methods (choose one)
Use the method you have tools for. MotoSport technicians prefer vacuum or pressure bleeding for speed & consistency; manual two-person bleeding works fine too.
1) Vacuum bleed (recommended for one person)
- Attach clear tubing to the bleed nipple and the other end to a vacuum pump or catch bottle with check valve.
- Open the bleed nipple about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Activate the vacuum pump and draw fluid until clear, bubble-free fluid appears and no air is drawn.
- Close the bleed nipple while maintaining vacuum, then remove tubing.
- Top up the master reservoir to the full mark.
- Repeat for each caliper in the correct sequence (see sequence below).
2) Manual two-person bleed
- One person pumps the brake lever or pedal slowly 3-4 times and holds it down; the second person opens the bleed nipple to let fluid/air out, then closes it before the lever/pedal is released.
- Repeat until only clear fluid and no bubbles emerge.
- Keep reservoir topped up between cycles to avoid sucking air in.
3) Gravity bleed (slow, low-effort)
- Attach tubing to bleed nipple and place other end in a catch bottle below the caliper level.
- Open bleed nipple slightly and let fluid flow naturally. This is slow but effective for getting small air pockets out.
- Close nipple when flow is steady and bubble-free; top up reservoir.
Bleeding order & specific sequence
- If the Sportsman 570 has separate front and rear circuits, bleed the caliper farthest from its master cylinder first, working toward the closest caliper.
- Typical order for single-reservoir systems: right rear, left rear, right front, left front. For dual-reservoir layouts, treat each circuit independently.
- If unsure, bleed each caliper until clear fluid appears, then verify lever/pedal firmness.
Completing the job
- When all calipers are bubble-free, tighten each bleed nipple to manufacturer snugness. Don’t overtighten; stop when firm.
- Wipe all fittings clean. Replace bleed caps.
- Top the reservoir to the correct level, reinstall diaphragm and cap securely.
- Operate the brake lever and pedal several times to confirm firm feel. If soft or spongy, repeat bleeding process.
- Check for leaks at calipers, brake lines, and master cylinder after a short test ride at low speed.
Tips & MotoSport best practices
- Change brake fluid every 1-2 years or sooner if exposed to water or heavy use.
- Always cap unused fluid containers and never reuse drained fluid.
- Label and dispose of old brake fluid per local regulations; do not pour on the ground or down drains.
- If your 2025 Sportsman 570 has electronic braking components or ABS, consult Polaris service literature before using pressure bleeders on the ABS module. When in doubt, have MotoSport service partners or a Polaris dealer handle ABS-specific procedures.
- After bleeding, bed the brakes with progressive stops from low speed to confirm consistent performance and to seat pads properly.
Troubleshooting
- Persistent soft lever/pedal after thorough bleeding could indicate master cylinder seal wear, caliper piston issues, or internal ABS air — inspect components or seek professional service.
- If you find corroded or seized bleed screws, replace them and the caliper dust caps to prevent future issues.
- If fluid becomes contaminated with dirt or shows dark discoloration rapidly after service, inspect the system for leaks or failing components.
Performing a proper brake fluid replacement & bleed on your 2025 Polaris Sportsman 570 keeps stopping performance reliable in the field. If you need parts or service help, our MotoSport parts team can help you pick DOT 4 fluid, bleed kits, bleed screws, and replacement caliper components.
