Have you ever heard of the Funky Chicken?

No, it's not the latest viral music craze with some silly dance steps it's actually Round 7 of the AMA West National hare Scrambles Championship series brought to you by the Emerald Trail Riders Association and sponsored by MotoSport.

The 2014 Funky Chicken showdown takes place quite appropriately over Father's Day weekend June 14-15 at the Big K Guest Ranch in Elkton, OR along the Umpqua River. The weekend features races for nearly 30 classes starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. This is a great father/son event and a must for beginners and pros. The Funky Chicken is an Oregon Motorcycle Riders Association XC points event and there's a pro purse of $3,000.

"We are the cornerstone of the AMA West National Hare Scrambles series and we bring you one of the most beautiful racing venues in the State of Oregon at the Big K Ranch in Elkton," said John Weber, race director. "Racing with a view of the Umpqua River! What could be better on a Fathers Day weekend?"

A member of ETRA came up with the name and whether it was in jest or not, the name stuck and the club decided to make it a "National" event. The Funky Chicken attracts top talent all over the nation.

"You'll want to enter this one for a truly unique Oregon Racing experience," Weber said. "We've got it all except for the desert! Singletrack in the woods, grasstrack, high-speed, technical, obstacles, features, and views, with soil ranging from dry and dusty, to wet and slick, to the most perfect loam."

Weber describes the Funky Chicken as "full throttle traction action" with trail names like "Park Avenue," "Adam's Backside," "Booger," "The Tunnel of Love," "10 MPH Hill," and "100MPH Hill" just to name a few. Whatever trail is tackled, riders should expect to have their stamina and abilities challeneged.

"You'll want a "Course Map" trophy so you can forever show your buddies where you passed them," he said.
