The Children's Cancer Association in Portland, OR hosts its 4th annual JoyRide on Saturday to benefit their Caring Cabin - an actual cabin of respite for families and their children facing cancer or terminal illness.

Cliff Ellis, co-founder of CCA and an avid motorcyclist, helped start the charity ride to keep the Caring Cabin program available. The cabin is located near Pacific City, OR on 24 acres. It is surrounded by forest and offers a lakeside fire pit and a private lake for kayaking, boating and fishing. Last year, 510 family members created wonderful lifelong memories at the cabin.

The Caring Cabin is one of the cornerstones of the CCA's mission and began in 2006. JoyRide turnout varies each year but typically between 75 and 125 motorcyclists join the run and help raise as much as $30,000.

The first three years, JoyRide started at Paradise Harley-Davidson and ended at the Caring Cabin. This year, the ride stays local and includes several stops in the Portland and Southwest Washington area. Participants receive a "passport" to be stamped at each stop where they also get information about CCA and its programs. The passport serves as proof the rider made each stop and enters them to win prizes.

Pre-register or sponsor a rider or register between 8:30 and 10 a.m. on Saturday at Randall Children's Hospital, 2801 N. Gatenbein Ave. in Portland. Cost is $50 per rider and $40 per passenger. Kickstands are up at 10 a.m. Ride ends at the Corner Saloon, 2509 SW Borland Rd. in Tualatin.
