Start With a Walkover: What to Look For Before Touching the Key

The first step with a YZF - R6S that has been sitting is a slow, deliberate walkover before anything electrical or mechanical is touched. Tire condition is the highest-priority safety item: press your thumb into the sidewall to assess flexibility, and look closely at the surface of the rubber for cracking that indicates age-related degradation. Tires don’t need to be ridden to age out—UV exposure, ozone, and time harden the rubber compounds even on a stored bike.
