The Outlaw 110 EFI was built to survive a young rider, and the little single-cylinder engine is usually the toughest thing on the machine. The soft parts wrapped around it are another story. The hose that carries gasoline from the tank to the throttle body is a wear item, and on a 2016 quad that has spent years in a shed or trailer, it is often the one component keeping an otherwise healthy ATV parked. Swapping it is a short job for a rider with intermediate mechanical skill.

Why the Rubber Ages Faster Than the Engine

Fuel line is a consumable, even though nothing on the quad announces it. Heat cycling off the cylinder, ultraviolet exposure, and plain oxidation slowly drive the plasticizers out of the hose wall. What left the factory soft and pliable turns stiff and glassy, and once it loses flexibility the steady vibration of a thumper engine works hairline cracks into the surface. Riders in dry, high-desert country watch this happen faster than anyone, since low humidity and hard sun accelerate the same chemistry. Ethanol-blended pump gas opens a second front. When a youth machine like this one sits for weeks between rides, the ethanol pulls moisture out of the air and works on the inner liner while gum and varnish build in the same stretch of hose. A line that looks acceptable from the outside can be quietly shedding material into the fuel stream.

Symptoms Worth Taking Seriously

Most failures announce themselves before they strand anyone, provided somebody is paying attention. Because the Outlaw 110 EFI runs a pressurized line from an in-tank pump rather than a gravity-fed carburetor circuit, a compromised hose tends to weep under pressure while the engine is running and then stop once the system bleeds down. That intermittent behavior fools people into ignoring it.

  • A damp spot or small puddle beneath the frame after a ride
  • Raw gasoline smell in the garage hours after shutdown
  • Visible checking, hardening, or swelling near the fittings
  • Bogging under throttle or an engine that acts starved as it warms
  • Hard starting after the machine has sat overnight

Any one of these justifies pulling the plastics and looking. Fuel weeping onto a hot exhaust is the reason this repair is never worth postponing.

What to Have on the Bench

Gather everything before you crack a fitting so you are not hunting for a tool with an open fuel line in your hand. Work outdoors or with the door open, keep a fire extinguisher within reach, and stay away from grinders, heaters, and anything else with a spark or pilot light. Gasoline vapor pools low and travels.

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves and eye protection
  • A sealable drain container for captured fuel
  • Replacement fuel line rated for pressurized EFI service and sized for the 2016 Outlaw 110 EFI
  • Fuel-rated hose clamps or a clamp assortment
  • Line-clamping pliers, since this model has no petcock to shut off flow
  • Small flat screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, and shop rags

Getting the Old Hose Off

Start by removing the seat and whatever bodywork sits between you and the tank so you can trace the hose end to end. On this fuel-injected chassis there is no petcock lever to close, so isolate the line with clamping pliers before you touch a fitting. Relieve residual pressure slowly, catching whatever comes out in your container rather than letting it run down the frame. Note how the line is routed and where it passes through guides or clearance points on the frame before anything moves. Release the old clamps, then break the hose free at the tank side and again at the throttle body. If a fitting uses a self-locking quick-connect, depress the retaining tabs squarely instead of prying. When the hose is glued on by old varnish, slit it lengthwise with a razor knife and peel it off rather than twisting on the barb.

Fitting the Replacement

Cut the new line to match the old one, laying them side by side so the length and every bend come out right. Extra length will chafe against the frame; short line will pull at the fittings under suspension movement. Push the hose fully onto the tank-side connection until it bottoms against the shoulder, then do the same at the throttle body end. Never coat a fitting with grease, oil, or spray lubricant to ease assembly, since it contaminates the fuel path and lets the hose creep off the barb later. A brief soak of the hose end in warm water is the only help it should need. Position new clamps just behind the barb ridge and snug them evenly, firm enough to seal without crushing the wall. Where the 2016 uses a factory quick-connect, listen for the click and tug the hose to confirm it locked.

Pressure Test Before Anyone Rides

Release the clamping pliers and let fuel refill the line. Turn the key and let the pump prime without cranking, then look and feel around both connections with a clean rag. Repeat the prime cycle two or three times to build pressure. Start the engine and let it idle while you check again from underneath with a flashlight, since a pinhole seep shows up as a slow bead rather than a drip. Wiggle the bars through full lock and cycle the suspension to make sure the new hose never goes tight or rubs a frame tube. Worth remembering on this platform: the fuel filter typically lives inside the tank rather than inline where you can see it, so a fresh hose that still delivers poorly points back toward the pump assembly. Route and secure everything, reinstall the plastics, and give the quad a short shakedown before handing it back over.
