The replacement is a contained job that an owner with intermediate mechanical skill can handle at home in an afternoon, provided the injection system on this quad is understood before the first fitting comes apart.

Tools and a Genuine Safety Note

Assemble everything before you touch the machine:

Internally, ethanol-blended fuel is the culprit. Recognizing a Failing Line

  • Stiff rubber that stays compressed instead of rebounding when pinched

  • An unstable idle or lean-running behavior as the engine reaches temperature

On a pressurized system, weak hose tends to leak rather than restrict, because the pump pushes fuel through any thin spot in the wall. The running symptoms still matter, since a hose that has swollen internally can choke flow and lean out an engine that will not tolerate it for long.

Taking the Old Hose Off

Pull the seat and whatever panels stand between you and the hose run from the tank-mounted pump outlet to the throttle body. Photograph the routing before anything moves, especially where the hose passes near frame tubes, the airbox, and the wiring harness. Clamp the hose shut, then break the throttle body connection slowly with a rag wrapped around the joint so the residual pressure vents into cloth instead of over the engine.

Quick-connect fittings release by squeezing the tabs or sliding the collar back — never by pulling on the hose, which cracks the plastic body. Clamped barb connections need the clamp slid clear and the hose twisted to break its grip. Old hose that has hardened onto a barb will not slide off; slit it lengthwise with a sharp blade and peel it away rather than levering on the fitting. Drain what fuel remains into your container.

Installation and Final Checks

Cut the new hose to match the old one exactly, using the removed piece as your template. Cut short, it tugs at both fittings every time the engine moves on its mounts. Cut long, it wanders off its intended path and chafes out of sight. Press each end onto its barb until the hose bottoms against the shoulder, then set the new clamps just behind the barb where they can actually clamp. Keep grease, oil, and lubricant sprays completely away from the fittings; a contaminated joint gives pressurized hose a route to walk off. If the connection is a self-locking quick-connect, push until it clicks and tug to confirm the latch engaged.

Release the clamping pliers, reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on without cranking so the pump primes the hose. Study both connections with a flashlight, cycle the key a few more times, and study them again. Start the engine and inspect once more at full system pressure. Wipe the area dry so anything fresh stands out, take the 2024 YFZ450R for an easy few minutes, then check both ends one last time before you ride it hard.
