How to Change the Oil in a 2004 Yamaha YFZ450

- Oil drain pan

Steps to Change the Oil
- Warm Up the Engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This helps the oil drain out smoothly by thinning it.
- Position the ATV: Place the ATV on a level surface and turn off the engine. Ensure the ATV is stable and secure.
- Remove the Skid Plate: Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the skid plate in place. Set the skid plate aside.
- Drain the Oil: Position the oil drain pan under the engine. Remove the drain bolt using a socket wrench and allow the oil to completely drain out. Replace the drain bolt and tighten it to the specified torque (14 lb-ft).
- Replace the Oil Filter: Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter. Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber seal of the new oil filter. Install the new filter and tighten it by hand.
- Add New Oil: Remove the oil filler cap and use a funnel to pour the new oil into the engine. The 2004 Yamaha YFZ450 requires approximately 1.9 quarts of oil. Replace the oil filler cap.
- Check for Leaks: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any oil leaks around the drain bolt and oil filter. If there are no leaks, turn off the engine.
- Reinstall the Skid Plate: Secure the skid plate back in place using the bolts removed earlier.
- Dispose of Old Oil: Properly dispose of the used oil and oil filter at a recycling center or an appropriate disposal facility.
