This MotoSport-exclusive step-by-step service guide walks you through safely replacing and bleeding the brake fluid on your 2021 CFMOTO CFORCE 500S. Follow these procedures carefully to maintain braking performance and prevent damage. Use manufacturer-recommended parts & fluids and dispose of old fluid responsibly.
Before you start — safety, tools, and fluid
- Safety first: work on a level surface, set the parking brake, remove the key, disconnect the battery negative if you'll be working near electrical components, wear eye protection and gloves.
- Tools: metric socket set, open-end wrenches, clear plastic tubing to fit bleeder nipples, a catch bottle, funnel, turkey baster or fluid syringe, torque wrench, shop rags, jack or stands to lift wheels as needed.
- Brake fluid: use DOT 4 (or the manufacturer-specified DOT rating). Never use DOT 5 silicone fluid. New DOT 4 is recommended for its boiling point and compatibility with ABS/EV systems.
- Parts: fresh brake fluid, replacement bleeder caps if damaged, and MotoSport-branded OEM or quality aftermarket caliper bleeder hardware if corroded.
Locate reservoirs & plan sequence
Your CFORCE 500S has separate reservoirs for the front and rear brakes. Identify the master cylinder reservoirs by their translucent housings and level marks. Plan your bleed sequence from the brake caliper farthest from the master cylinder to the closest. For most CFORCE 4x4 layouts use this order: rear-right, rear-left, front-right, front-left. Adjust if your machine's reservoir placement differs.
Step-by-step fluid replacement & bleed (pump-and-hold method)
- Park on level ground, block wheels, and lift the wheel(s) you'll access so the caliper bleeders are accessible.
- Clean the master cylinder reservoir caps and surrounding area to prevent contamination. Remove the cap and diaphragm. Siphon out most of the old fluid from the reservoir with a turkey baster or syringe; don't let dirt fall in.
- Top the reservoir with fresh DOT 4 fluid to the MAX mark. Keep the cap loosely in place to limit contamination while you work.
- Attach clear tubing to the bleeder nipple of the wheel you are starting with. Put the other end in a catch bottle partially filled with fresh fluid to prevent air being drawn back in.
- Have an assistant sit on the machine and firmly pump the brake lever or pedal 3-6 times and then hold it down. With the lever/pedal held, open the bleeder nipple about a quarter to half turn to let fluid & air escape into the tubing. Close the nipple before the assistant releases the lever/pedal. Repeat until fluid runs clear and bubble-free, then tighten the nipple to spec. Refill the reservoir as needed to keep fluid from dropping below the MIN mark.
- Repeat the process for each caliper in the planned sequence (farthest to nearest). Keep reservoir level topped with new fluid throughout; never let it run dry or you will introduce more air.
- After bleeding all wheels, ensure bleeder nipples are properly tightened and capped. Clean any spilled brake fluid immediately as it can damage plastics and paint.
- Check lever/pedal firmness. If it feels spongy, repeat bleeding until it feels firm with consistent travel. Test brakes at low speed in a safe area before full operation.
Alternative methods — one-person and pressure/vacuum
- One-person: use a one-way valve or clear tubing with a small check valve so you can pump and release without an assistant.
- Pressure or vacuum bleeders: using a hand pump or bench-style pressure bleeder speeds the job and reduces mess. Follow the bleeder manufacturer's instructions and keep reservoir level topped during operation.
Torque & leak check
- Torque bleeder nipples and any caliper bolts to CFMOTO specifications where available. If unsure, snug then mark and re-check after a short ride.
- Start the engine, apply the brakes repeatedly, and inspect all lines, fittings, master cylinder, and calipers for leaks. Re-torque as necessary.
Post-service checks
- Bleed again if you detect any air or inconsistent feel. Monitor fluid level for several rides; a dropping level can indicate a leak.
- Record the service date and mileage. Replace brake fluid every 1-2 years or per manufacturer recommendation, sooner if used in heavy-duty, wet, or high-load riding.
CFORCE 500S owner notes & model-specific tips
- Reservoir access: on the CFORCE 500S front reservoir is typically handlebar-mounted for the front brakes; rear reservoir position can be under a rear panel. Remove side panels or the seat carefully to access the rear master cylinder if needed.
- Brake lines & routing: inspect flexible hoses for cracking where they bend. The CFORCE uses routed lines that can be pinched by accessories or racks — verify clear routing after any accessory install.
- Caliper corrosion: riding in wet or coastal environments accelerates caliper corrosion. If bleeder nipples are heavily corroded, replace them and the caps from MotoSport parts to avoid seized nipples during bleeding.
- ABS or sensor systems: if your CFORCE 500S variant has any brake sensors, avoid contaminating sensor areas with brake fluid. Replace any damaged sensors or wiring; poor sensor signals can affect braking behavior.
- OEM parts & filters: use MotoSport-sourced replacement seals, bleeder nipples, and reservoir diaphragms to maintain fit and durability.
Waste disposal
Used brake fluid is hazardous. Collect it in a sealed container and take it to an approved recycling or hazardous waste facility. Do not pour into drains or onto the ground.
Final test & ride
Confirm reservoir level, secure all fasteners, and perform a cautious low-speed test in a safe area to verify braking performance. Re-inspect for leaks after the test ride and re-torque fasteners if needed.
Keep this guide with your service records and use MotoSport for parts & accessories to maintain reliability and safety on your CFORCE 500S.
