With the coronavirus pandemic seemingly in the rearview, the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series released the 2022 Outdoor schedule retaining the usual 12 round dates starting Memorial Day weekend and ending Labor Day weekend for the 50th anniversary season.
All the customary national level Motocross tracks remain on the circuit and like 2021, Fox Raceway gets two dates, bookending the 2022 schedule by opening and closing the season on May 28 and Sept. 3, respectively. Hangtown, which hosted Round 1 for 13 of the previous 18 seasons and the final round this year, gets Round 2 for the first time since 2014. Issues far too complex and beyond my pay grade to sort out continue to keep Glen Helen out of the loop. The facility with the iconic Mount St. Helens has not hosted the Nationals since 2018.
Well, just as long as RedBud hosts July 4 weekend! Indeed, the home to the iconic Lot B remains steadfast, or at least the powers-that-be remain loyal to the Buchanan, MI hotspot for gatedrops and if you didn't know, RedBud also hosts the 2022 Motocross of Nations on Sept. 24, 2022 so perhaps the United States will send a team next year.
The sandtrap at Southwick follows RedBud on July 9, Round 3 belongs to Thunder Valley on June 11 but the most anticipated date comes on July 23 at Washougal. If you failed to make the trip this year when the largest crowd ever recorded at the facility came to watch, you also missed all of us at MotoSport. Probably not high on your checklist, however, I have on pretty good word that MotoSport plans bigger and better for 2022.
The 2022 Motocross schedule features two breaks: The first giving riders a weekend off after Round 4 at High Point and two weekends off between Washougal and Unadilla on Aug. 13.
Dylan Ferrandis will ride the #1 plate in the 450 class and Jett Lawrence will defend his 250 title.
