An electric pump inside the fuel tank pressurizes the hose running forward to the throttle body, and there is no petcock beneath the tank. No valve to shut, no gravity feed to interrupt, no float bowl to drain.
That means the line stays pressurized after the key is off and must be bled down deliberately before you separate a fitting. It also means the fuel filter sits inside the tank as part of the pump module rather than clipped inline where you can reach it, which sets a clear boundary on what this repair covers.
Signs That Send You Looking

Work outdoors, or open the shop front and back so air genuinely moves through at floor level. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools low, exactly where extension cords, shop heaters, and water heater pilots tend to be. Extinguish pilot lights, unplug and move battery chargers, keep grinders and hot work lamps away from the tank, and put a fire extinguisher on the ground within reach while kneeling. Gloves are protection, not tidiness, since gasoline strips skin oils in seconds and absorbs through skin.
Getting the Old Line Out
Relieve pressure first. Pull the fuel pump fuse, crank the engine for a second or two until it stalls, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the seat and any bodywork covering the tank outlet and the hose run forward. Slide the drain pan under the joint and hold a rag over the fitting as it separates, since residual fuel stands in the hose even after pressure is released. Push clamps well back before disturbing the joint. On a locking coupler, press both tabs squarely and pull straight off with no sideways leverage, because those plastic collars grow brittle over time and split when levered.
Twist the hose gently at each barb to break the varnish bond, then work it off. Where it refuses to move, slit it lengthwise and peel it away rather than putting force on the fitting. Trace and photograph the routing before the old hose is fully free. This is a 4x4 with power steering, so the line passes clearance points around the front differential, the extra frame crossmembers, and the steering assist hardware, and returning it to the same path is what keeps it away from moving parts and heat.
Seating the Replacement
Cut the new hose to the same length as the old one, squaring the ends with a sharp blade so they seat cleanly. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and install it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone spray have no place on a fuel fitting, because a lubricant film on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a route past the clamp months later. If the fit is too tight to push on, dip the hose end in hot water for thirty seconds and try again.
Position new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly, firm without deforming the rubber. A self-locking quick-connect gets pushed home until the collar clicks and then tugged to confirm the latch, with no clamp added. Reseat the hose in every original retainer before you consider the installation done.
Checking for Leaks Before the First Ride
Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off four or five times without cranking. Each cycle primes the pump and loads the hose with pressure while the surrounding surfaces are still dry, which is when a bead of fuel is easiest to see. Wipe both joints with a clean rag and study them again.
Start the engine and inspect at idle, then blip the throttle several times to swing pressure through the line and look once more. Allow several minutes of leak-free running before the bodywork goes back on, and check a final time after a short ride while everything is hot, since a marginal clamp usually reveals itself under heat.
