That is a harder life than an old gravity-fed hose ever had, and it is worth understanding before you start pulling bodywork.

What a Failing Line Looks Like From the Saddle

The first clue is usually smell. Gasoline vapor hanging in the garage well after the machine cooled off means fuel is escaping somewhere, and the hose is the most common somewhere. A stain or damp patch on the frame or skid area is the next clue, though on a pressurized system the leak often stops the moment the engine shuts down and the line bleeds off. Riders also report an engine that pulls cleanly at first and then starts stumbling or feeling starved once it warms and the hose softens. Hard starting after an overnight sit belongs on the list too. Any of these together with visible hardening at the fittings makes the diagnosis straightforward.

The Chemistry Behind the Cracks

Fuel hose does not wear out from mileage so much as from time and exposure. Engine heat cycles the rubber daily, sunlight breaks down the outer wall, and the plasticizers that keep the material flexible slowly leave. What remains gets brittle, and the vibration of a single-cylinder engine finds every weak spot in it. Dry climates speed this along noticeably, since low humidity and strong sun both push in the same direction. Ethanol-blended fuel does the rest of the damage from the inside. When a 2017 Outlaw 110 EFI sits between weekends, the alcohol content attracts moisture and works on the inner liner while gum and varnish settle into the same length of hose. That is why a line can look serviceable on the outside and still be shedding material into the injector feed.

Tools, Parts, and a Real Word About Gasoline

Set everything out before the first fitting comes loose. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, sinks toward the floor, and finds ignition sources you forgot were running, so open the doors, kill any pilot lights or space heaters, and keep an extinguisher nearby. Wear gloves; repeated skin contact with pump gas is genuinely unpleasant.

Removing the Original Hose

Pull the seat and any plastic panels covering the tank so you can follow the hose from the tank fitting all the way to the throttle body. Photograph the routing, including every guide, clip, and clearance point along the frame, because getting the new hose back in the same path matters more than people expect. With no fuel valve to close on this fuel-injected chassis, pinch the line closed with clamping pliers, then bleed pressure off slowly into your drain container instead of letting it spray. Back off or cut away the old clamps, then work the hose free at each end. Quick-connect fittings release by pressing the retaining tabs evenly and pulling straight; do not lever them with a screwdriver. A hose cemented on by varnish comes off cleanly if you split it lengthwise with a blade and peel it away from the barb.

Installing and Securing the New Line

Lay the old hose next to the new stock and cut to the same length so the bends land where the factory intended. Too much length invites chafing against frame tubing; too little puts a standing pull on both fittings every time the suspension moves. Slide the hose all the way onto the tank-side connection until it seats against the shoulder, then repeat at the throttle body. Do not use grease, oil, or silicone spray to help it slide on. Lubricant contaminates the fuel path and lets the hose walk off the barb under pressure later. Warm water is the only assist you need. Set new clamps just past the barb ridge and tighten them evenly, snug enough to seal but not so tight that they bite into the wall. If your machine uses a self-locking quick-connect on one end, it needs no clamp at all, only a firm tug to confirm engagement.

Priming, Leak Checking, and Buttoning Up

Release the pinch pliers and let the line fill. Cycle the key on and off a few times so the pump primes and brings the system up to pressure without cranking, then run a dry rag around both connections and look for darkening on the cloth. Fire the engine and check again from below with a flashlight, since a slow seep at working pressure shows as a bead rather than a drip. Turn the bars through full lock and compress the suspension to confirm the hose never pulls tight or rubs. One last note for this platform: the fuel filter sits inside the tank rather than inline where you can see it, so if the engine still acts starved with a brand new hose, the pump assembly is the next thing to look at. Reinstall the panels and seat, then take a slow lap before the quad goes back to its rider.
