Fuel line work is straightforward mechanically, and the part that actually deserves caution is the gasoline itself. Set up before you touch a fitting. Push the 2016 Renegade 1000 X XC outdoors if the weather cooperates, or open the shop from end to end and put a box fan on the floor moving air across the workspace. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it drifts down and pools at ankle level rather than rising out an open window, which is why airflow low to the ground matters. Unplug the battery charger, shut off any grinder, extinguish appliance pilot lights nearby, and let the exhaust cool completely before starting.
Then lay out your parts and tools:

An Injected Rotax With No Fuel Valve

Nothing on the machine functions as a petcock, so there is no valve to close and no gravity feed to stop. Instead, the hose you are replacing holds pressure long after shutdown, meaning the first mechanical act is bleeding that pressure down. Expect factory clips or a self-locking quick-connect where the hose meets the tank rather than plain worm-gear clamps, and be sure the replacement hose carries an injection pressure rating instead of being general purpose carburetor tubing.
Why the Original Hose Has Reached Its Limit
Fuel hose degrades on two fronts simultaneously. Externally, heat from the twin and constant vibration drive plasticizers out of the rubber compound, and once flexibility disappears, routine chassis flex opens fine cracks that deepen with use. Riders in dry, low humidity regions see this progress faster because arid air draws remaining moisture out of the hose wall.
Internally, ethanol blended pump gas attacks the liner. Alcohol pulls water into the fuel and slowly degrades the inner surface, so a Renegade that has sat unused with fuel standing in the lines can become soft and swollen inside while the outside grows brittle. Debris shed from that liner heads downstream toward the injectors, which is why a hose that still looks presentable on a machine of this age may already be a problem.
Warning Signs to Take Seriously
Before it splits outright, a hose usually offers evidence. The classic sign is a fuel puddle or a quickly evaporating damp patch beneath the quad after it has been parked overnight. Odor is just as telling, and a gasoline smell that lingers around the tank right after shutdown, while the circuit still holds pressure, is the most reliable indicator on an injected machine. Physically, look for surface cracking, a chalky feel, hardened lengths that will not compress, and any swollen or spongy area near a fitting. How the engine runs matters too: bogging under load, stumbling on a hard throttle pull, or acting starved at higher rpm all point at fuel delivery. Since pressurized fuel escaping a pinhole often atomizes before it drips, a smell you cannot trace is still worth chasing with a clean white rag along the whole hose run.
Bleeding Down and Removing the Line
Start by pulling the fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank the starter for two or three seconds until the engine dies from fuel starvation. Turn the key off and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and the plastics covering the tank so you can trace the hose from the pump outlet to the throttle body, position the drain pan below the low point, and lay a rag over the first joint you intend to open, since a depressurized line still holds fuel.
Push clips and clamps well clear of the joint before disturbing it. Quick-connect couplers release when both lock tabs are pressed squarely and the fitting is pulled straight off the nipple; prying to one side snaps plastic that has hardened with age. Where varnish has bonded the hose to a barb, twist gently to break the seal, and if that fails, slit the hose lengthwise with a razor and peel it off to protect the fitting. Photograph the routing before the last clip is released. Installing the New Hose
Cut the fresh hose to match the removed piece precisely. Extra length allows the line to wander toward the exhaust or chafe on a frame edge, and a short piece loads both fittings at an angle. Work each end onto its barb until it bottoms out past the raised bead, and install it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone must stay off the fittings entirely, because lubricant on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a route to weep past the hose. If a hose end fights you, soften it in hot water for thirty seconds and it will slide on unaided.
Set new clamps just behind the bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly rather than digging into the rubber. A self-locking quick-connect needs no clamp: press until it clicks, then tug firmly to confirm the latch caught. Return the hose to every original clip so it stays clear of the front driveline and hot surfaces.
Proving It Holds
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off four or five times without cranking. Each cycle primes the pump and pressurizes the line while the engine remains cold, which is the safest way to inspect your work. Run a dry rag around both joints and look closely for even a trace of dampness, then start the engine and check once more at idle with good light. Let it idle several leak free minutes before reinstalling the plastics.
Keep one platform detail in mind: on this injected Renegade the fuel filter is part of the in-tank pump assembly, not an inline element on the visible hose. New line cannot compensate for a restricted filter, so if the machine still feels starved after a clean install, that module is where to go next.
