Changing the oil in your 2001 Yamaha WR250F is an essential maintenance task to ensure peak engine performance & longevity.   2. Remove the Oil Filler Cap

  3. Locate and Remove the Drain Bolt
    • On the 2001 steel frame WR250F, the engine oil reservoir is part of the frame itself. The main drain bolt is located on the lower right side of the frame cradle. Use a 12mm socket to loosen and remove it, letting the old oil completely drain into your pan.

  5. Reinstall the Drain Plug
    • When all oil has drained, reinstall the drain plug (with new crush washer if possible). Tighten to 20 Nm if using a torque wrench.
  6. Add New Engine Oil
    • Insert a funnel into the oil filler hole and pour in 1.3 liters of fresh 10W-40 oil if you changed the filter, or 1.2 liters if you did not.
    • Let the oil settle for a minute. Replace the filler cap and dipstick, then start the bike and let it idle for 30-60 seconds. Turn the bike off and let it sit for a couple of minutes, then check the oil level again—it should be between the marks on the dipstick. Add small amounts as needed to achieve the correct level.
  7. Check for Leaks and Final Assembly
    • Inspect around the drain plug and filter cover for any leaks or drips.
    • Reinstall the skid plate and any guards that were removed earlier.
    • Clean any spilled oil from the engine and floor.
