Preparation

  • Allow the bike to cool–never open the radiator cap on a hot engine to avoid burns.
  • Gather supplies: fresh coolant (Beta recommends high-quality motorcycle coolant), distilled water, a drain pan, funnel, and basic hand tools.

Draining the Old Coolant

  • Remove the radiator cap located at the top of the left radiator.
  • Locate the coolant drain bolt near the water pump cover (typically at the bottom side of the engine). Place your drain pan under this location.
  • Unscrew the drain bolt – let all coolant flow into the pan.
  • Optionally, you can flush the system with distilled water: reinstall drain bolt, fill with distilled water, run the engine briefly to circulate, then drain again for added cleaning.

Filling with New Coolant

  • Install the drain bolt and torque it to manufacturer specs.
  • Slowly pour coolant into the left radiator – on the XTRAINER, fill just above the internal fins but below the neck. Do not overfill.
  • Use the provided bleeder screw on the left radiator unique to the XTRAINER series to purge any air: loosen gently until coolant starts to seep, then re-tighten. This step helps avoid air pockets, which can impede cooling performance.
  • Install radiator cap.

Final Checks

  • Start the engine and let it idle until fully warm. Check the coolant level again–add more if necessary, ensuring it remains above the fins but below the neck.
  • Inspect for leaks at the drain bolt and radiator seams.
  • Wipe up any spilled coolant–it is toxic and slippery.
