Changing the coolant on your 2022 Husqvarna FE350S is crucial to maintain peak performance, prevent overheating, and extend the life of your engine. The 2022 FE350S features a high-performance DOHC engine and advanced cooling systemthe process described below is tailored specifically for your model, focusing on ease and reliability.
Tools & Supplies Needed:
- Socket set, including a 6mm or 8mm socket (check your water pump cover screw size)
- Drain pan
- Funnel
- High-quality motorcycle coolant (refer to your owner's manual for spec)
- Distilled water (for flushing, optional)
- Torque wrench (10 Nm guideline for drain bolt)
- Shop towels
- Protective gloves & eyewear
Step-by-Step Coolant Change Instructions:
- Prepare Your Bike
Stand the FE350S upright on a level surface. Make sure the engine is completely cool before beginning, as the cooling system is pressurized when hot—removing the radiator cap on a hot engine can cause injury. - Access the Radiator
Remove the radiator shrouds if needed for easier access. Locate the radiator cap (usually on the left side above the left radiator). - Release Pressure & Drain the System
Slowly remove the radiator cap to release any residual pressure.
Place a drain pan under the water pump. Locate the water pump cover drain screw (right side of the engine, near the bottom of the pump cover). Using your socket, carefully remove the drain screw and let the coolant flow out completely. To fully drain both radiators, gently rock the bike side to side.
Inspect and clean the sealing washer or replace it if damaged. - Optional: Flush the System
If you want a thorough flush, reinsert and lightly tighten the drain screw, fill the radiators with distilled water, run the engine briefly (no more than a minute) with the radiator open, then repeat the draining process. - Reinstall Drain Screw
Once everything is drained, reinstall the drain screw with the sealing washer. Tighten to 10 Nm (7.4 lbf–ft). Avoid over-tightening as the water pump cover is usually aluminum. - Refill with Coolant
Using your funnel, fill the radiator slowly with the recommended premixed coolant until full. The FE350S does not have a separate overflow reservoir—the system is topped at the main radiator opening.
Check for air in the system. Some FE350S models have a small bleeder screw at the cylinder head. If equipped, loosen this briefly while filling to help evacuate trapped air, then retighten as coolant seeps out. - Check for Leaks & Bleed System
Replace the radiator cap. Start the motorcycle and let it idle until the fan cycles on, then shut off and let cool. Remove the radiator cap and top up coolant if needed.
Inspect for any leaks around the drain bolt and hoses. - Reassemble
Replace any shrouds you removed. Wipe down any spilled coolant, as it can be slippery and corrosive to some surfaces. - Dispose of Old Coolant Properly
Coolant is toxic—always dispose of used liquid at a proper recycling center or hazardous waste site.
Unique Notes for the 2022 Husqvarna FE350S Owner:
- The FE350S shares its cooling system architecture with KTM enduro models, but vent and emission plumbing may be unique due to EPA requirements. If you have removed emissions equipment, ensure all ports are blocked securely to avoid coolant loss or vacuum leaks.
- If you ride in extreme conditions or race, consider installing an auxiliary coolant reservoir or upgraded hoses to reduce the risk of overheating.
- The recommended coolant type and fill amount are specified in your owner's manual. Using pre-mixed motorcycle-specific coolant will prevent corrosion and maximize system efficiency.
- Always double-check routing of coolant hoses and condition during reassembly. The FE350S's compact chassis means hoses can be pinched or kinked if covers are forced into place.
Proper coolant maintenance not only protects your FE350S from engine damage but helps you ride longer and harder with confidence. Keep an eye on fluid levels and get fresh coolant in at regular intervals for best performance.
