The 2022 Beta 250 RR features a closed cooling system with a coolant capacity of 1,300 ml (1.3 liters), so using the right amount – and technique – is essential for optimal performance. Unlike earlier Beta models, the 2022 has no radiator bleeder screw, so attention to proper filling and air removal is crucial for a complete service.

Tools and Supplies Needed

  • Fresh, high-quality motorcycle coolant (1.5 liters recommended)
  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • 8mm and 10mm socket or spanner
  • Catch pan for old coolant
  • Rags and gloves

Step-by-Step Coolant Change Guide for Beta 250 RR

  1. Let the bike cool completely.
    Make sure the engine and radiators are cool to prevent burns and ensure accurate coolant readings.
  2. Remove necessary panels.
    Take off the seat and right-side shrouds to access the radiator cap.
  3. Drain the old coolant.
    Place your catch pan under the bike.
    • Locate the water pump drain bolt on the right-side engine cover (bottom of water pump area).
    • Remove the bolt and allow all coolant to fully drain.
    • Inspect the old coolant for debris or oil (milky coolant may indicate other issues).
  4. Flush (optional but recommended).
    If your coolant was dirty, flush the system with distilled water to remove residue. Reinstall drain bolt and tighten to factory spec.
  5. Fill with new coolant.
    Remove the radiator cap (on the right radiator). Slowly pour in coolant. The system takes 1,300 ml (1.3 liters). Fill until coolant is just above the radiator cores (internal fins), leaving a small air gap.
    Tip: Because there is no bleeder screw, gently rock the bike side-to-side after partially filling to release any trapped air. Finish filling until the coolant sits slightly above the radiator fins.
  6. Check for air and top off.
    Gently rock the bike or squeeze the upper radiator hose to purge trapped air. If the level drops after rocking, top off as needed.
  7. Reinstall the radiator cap.
    Ensure the cap is secured tightly.
  8. Start the engine and circulate coolant.
    Briefly start the bike (1–2 minutes) with the radiator cap on. Let it reach normal temperature, then shut it off and let it cool fully. Recheck coolant – top off if necessary.
  9. Reinstall all plastics and the seat.
  10. Check for leaks and proper operation.
    Confirm no leaks at the drain bolt or radiator cap. Inspect after your next ride for additional settling.

Special Note for the 2022 Beta 250 RR

The later Beta RR models (2020–up) eliminated the radiator bleeder screw formerly found on older versions. Because of this, purging air by gently rocking the bike or squeezing the hoses is particularly important for this model. Always monitor your temperature gauge closely after the first coolant change to confirm there is no overheating caused by trapped air or low coolant level. The 250 RR's capacity is 1,300 ml – do not overfill, as this may cause loss through the overflow.
